Description

The Maryland National Capital Park & Planning Commission is one of the largest organizations servicing both Montgomery and Prince George's counties. In both counties we manage the park systems, but in Prince George's county we also develop the public's recreation programs.

Within our Department of Parks & Recreation, the Facility Services Division (FSD) is the largest division in Parks & Recreation. We provide high quality maintenance and maintenance support services for all of the parks and recreation facilities within Prince George's County. We have six major work areas: Fleet Management, Buildings & Structures (Trade Shops), Horticulture & Forestry, Major Maintenance & Inspection, Critical Projects(Aquatics, Heavy Equipment/Roads and Grounds and Sustainability) and the Administration section.

Examples of Important Duties

The Prince George's County Department of Parks and Recreation, Carpenter Shop section is seeking applicants to fill an entry level Carpenter vacancy. The successful candidate under general supervision will perform carpentry work involving moderate responsibility, complexity and variety. Receives work orders to perform simple carpentry jobs and assists on major projects using rough and finished carpentry to construct, repair, maintain, or renovate Commission buildings, structures and properties, ensuring safety at all times. Ability to use a variety of manual and power carpentry tools to shape, sand and finish materials on simple jobs; measures, cuts and installs wide variety of materials. Paints, stains, and finishes carpentry projects; builds custom cabinets, desks, shelves, tables, doors and hardware, moldings, countertops, etc. Ability to complete required administrative paperwork and record keeping. Preferred and/or Desired ability to perform installation, maintenance and repair to Schlage Lock systems or other types of locks and to make new and duplicate keys.

Salary ($42,260-$74,843)

Minimum Qualifications

• High School diploma or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED).
• Completion of an approved carpentry apprentice program or four (4) years of progressively responsible carpentry experience.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total four (4) years.
• Valid driver's license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations. Driver's license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions, or points that could limit the employee's ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required by the position of assignment.
• Depending on area of assignment, a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements may be required and must be in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations.
• Pass Commission medical examination.
