Job Description:

This position is on-site and limited part time. The Career Development Specialist is responsible for preparing students for employment within the biotechnology/biomanufacturing field. This position will work closely with students to write resumes, practice interview skills and find a job or learn more about career possibilities. The Career Specialists work with students to make sure that they are meeting employer expectations and engaging in productive work-based learning experiences. Career Specialists collaborate closely with biotechnology faculty, WD team and other Quincy College staff. This position is grant funded with a possibility for an additional year.

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • You will work closely with all the students enrolled in the biomanufacturing grant funded programs, assisting them with resume writing, practice interview skills and find a job or learn more about career possibilities.

  • In coordination with the Career Development and Internship Director (CDID) and WD team the Career Specialists supports students through selection processes and at worksites to make sure that they are meeting employer expectations and engaging in productive work-based learning experiences

  • Provide career counseling to students and groups.

  • Develop and implement career development plans.

  • Assist clients in understanding their strengths, weaknesses, and interests.

  • Conduct research on career options and the job market.

  • Advise clients on the best career paths for their goals.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with employers to create job opportunities for clients.

  • Maintain client records and provide progress reports.

  • Guide and lead under the CDID leadership career fair events.

  • Facilitate an environment that fosters the learning of all students.

  • Utilize educational technology to support student's instruction and learning.

  • Develop and deliver daily lesson plans utilizing a broad range of appropriate differentiated techniques and strategies to ensure learners meet or exceed earning targets.

  • Establish and maintain positive and effective relationships with students, peers, and community.

  • Follow policies and procedures outlined by the VP of Workforce, Economic and Institutional Development.

  • To work cooperatively with other teaching and support staff.

  • Participate in mandatory training/coursework; including but not limited to:

Title IX and Sexual Misconduct

Sexual Harassment and Non-Discrimination

Security Policy and Notification of Security Reporting

FERPA

Municipal Ethics Law

Requirements:

Requirements: A minimum of one year to two years' experience assisting diverse students, clients with career development services. Willingness to work collaboratively as part of a team, and a proven ability to create a safe and welcoming environment for students from diverse backgrounds are all requirements of this position. Experience working with non-traditional students is strongly preferred. The incumbent will also display:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, as well as other office software applications

  • Ability to exercise good judgment in prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines.

  • Ability to collaborate and build working relationships with faculty and staff.

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Strong commitment to the delivery of student-centered academic advising

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree, human services, social work, or other disciplines.

  • The ideal candidate will have experience in providing career guidance to individuals, helping them identify their strengths and weaknesses, and developing action plans to reach their goals.

  • Demonstrated interest/experience in working with adult students.

  • Ability to foster an effective learning environment for multiple age and skill levels.

  • Ability to implement multiple teaching methods, styles, and materials.

  • To work cooperatively with other teaching and support staff

  • Knowledge of adult learner characteristics

  • Basic computer skills

  • Strong communication and organizational skills

  • Prefer experience with placing students within the Biotechnology and/or Biomanufacturing field.
