Part-Time Career Coach (Temporary, Grant-Funded)

Reports to: Director of Career & Alumni Engagement

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Hours: 15-25 hours per week. Must be available to work day, evening and weekend hours, including off-site locations.

  • This position is contingent upon grant-funding with an expected end date of 12/31/2026.

This position has been approved for a flexible work option arrangement. Flexible work options can be ended at any time by the College, Cabinet, and/or supervisors based on employee performance and/or as institutional needs change.

  • This position has college-wide responsibilities and requires travel between all campuses and off-site locations but will be based at the Blue Bell campus.

Basic Purpose:

This position supports student retention, progression to graduation and alumni career success by assisting students with identifying career goals, developing leadership skills and planning career moves as related to academic progression; fostering strong and mutually rewarding partnerships with industry, training, and community partners.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provides major selection and career coaching and workshops on a variety of career development related topics including, but not limited to, interest/skill/personality self-assessments; choosing a major/career; and interview preparation; job search.

  • Coaches students and alumni one-on-one or in small groups on developing 21st Century skills, and creating ePortfolios, personal web pages, technology based job searches, and business networking techniques.

  • Participates in job development, including administering and interpreting career assessment instruments.

  • Provides support to student and employer participants of the College's MAP IT Apprenciticeship Program via student meetings, presentations, and document/process management.

  • Implements outreach programs to promote and encourage career services program participation.

  • Monitors and maintains protocol that provides support for high demand jobs, internships, certificates, and non-credit training options.

  • Cultivates relationships with alumni, faculty, administration, students, and with local and regional industry recruiters and employers to provide internship and employment opportunities for students.

  • Maintain accurate records on student career assessment and usage of services.

  • Analyze and document progress of sessions with students and maintain confidential student records.

  • Participate in programs related to student orientation and mentoring.

  • Provide assistance with navigating My Success Network, MyCareerPlan, Hire a Mustang, Starfish, Self Service, etc.

  • Maintain open communication with academic advisors in support of students (i.e. academic improvement plan, individualized service plan, opportunities, progress toward goals, etc.)

  • Complete all trainings and attend staff meetings

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Counseling, Social Work, Education, Psychology or other related field (Master's degree preferred)

  • 1-3 years previous career or employment work experience.

  • Proven technology skills, including using technology in program delivery.

  • Organizational and communication skills

  • Demonstrated commitment to work with diverse populations, such as under-resourced groups and first-generation students.

  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to a comprehensive community college philosophy.
