Essential Job Functions: 1. Serves as the primary contact for career advisement issues/services for Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine students.
2.Acts as backup for management during their absence.
3.Assists in formulating strategic business plans for the University and/or College.
4.Provides career advisement to students and alumni to prepare them for the medical specialty of their choice by identifying career goals, establishing a plan of action, writing a medical CV, preparing for an interview, and any other preparation activities related to the career trajectory of future physicians.
5.Works with students to prepare them for a successful transition from student to resident from orientation to graduation by conducting mandatory career advising meetings each semester.
6.Responsible for the counseling and managing a student load of 360 medical students each academic year. Students have a mandatory requirement to meet with their Career Advisor each semester.
7.Works with students and alumni to establish a plan of action to prepare for a successful career.
8.Advises staff, students, and faculty of professional advisement services available to medical students; assists with residency program search, application process, and submittal timelines; collaborates with students in the creation of residency application materials.
9.Providing referral to the Medical Education Department for students with academic concerns and test preparation assistance.
Informs staff, students, and faculty on the professional advisement services made available to medical students.
Assists with the residency search, application process and submittal timelines for residency application. Collaborates with students in the creation of application materials.
Identifies appropriate assessment tools and facilitates assessments with student to identify their medical specialty interests, preferred work environments, and how to make decisions about career choices.
Develops workshops and sessions on career development topics to include soft-skill development.
Develops, organizes, and prepares materials for medical students and alumni to guide them through the selection of their specialty of choice and/or refers them to available resources.
Instructs medical students in career development techniques, such as residency program search and application strategies, medical CV writing and interview skills.
Maintains accurate and complete student records as required by laws, policies, and administrative regulations.
Provides referral to medical students for mental health services if needed.
Review M4 students Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) portfolio for completeness and accuracy prior to submission
Assists and reviews medical students Personal Statements for inclusion in the Electronic Residency Application (ERAS).
Creates virtual mock interviews for M4 students to prepare for residency interviews. Provides feedback and recommendations after review of the mock interview recording.
Works with students to ensure that their Noteworthy Characteristics for use in the creation of the Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE) are grammatically correct and accurate.
Assists with all Student Affairs events, including White Coat Ceremony, Graduation, and other Office sponsored events.
Represents institution and/or assigned program(s) at community and campus events, in meetings with other institution personnel, and during accreditation processes.
Promotes the university by participating in community, state, and national events or meetings, and by developing partnerships with industry and professional associations.
Establishes departmental assessment of operational policies and procedures; makes any necessary modifications, based on analysis of operations, demographics, and other research information, to continually improve services to students and alumni.
Oversees the daily performance of assigned career development portal(s).
Maintains and updates program's Canvas portal with relevant resource materials and annual updates to Match rules and regulations.
Maintains data integrity and confidentiality.
Participates in the compilation and study of occupational, educational, and economic information to assist students and career development team in determining and carrying out career and educational objectives.
Ensures compliance with university policies and procedures; county, state, federal, and international regulations; professional association guidelines; and accreditation requirements.
Completes special projects as assigned.
Performs other duties as assigned or required.
