As a Career Advisor Trainee, you will develop, enhance, and learn to apply knowledge of workforce development programs, services, policies, regulations, legislation, and procedures. You will learn to provide group and individual intake services, assist in developing and conducting workshops, acquire experience in planning and conducting group and individual career counseling and coaching on résumé-writing, interviewing, job searching, networking, and other topics.

Within this position, you will gain proficiency in coordinating and providing services using a case management approach, assisting the jobseeker to develop employment goals; create and modify an Individual Employment Plan (IEP); coordinate support with other providers; track progress toward goals; and provide follow-up activities.

Additional duties include developing skills to provide services to employers, including making contacts, coordinating recruitment services, referring qualified jobseekers, and assisting employers with posting vacancies. You will gain knowledge of the procedure to approve or reject new employers in compliance with requirements.

Upon successful completion of the Career Advisor Trainee training program, Trainees will be promoted to Career Advisor.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment.

  • Work hours are 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.

  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in New Kensington.

  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Four years of public contact work that involved interviewing the public to obtain, provide, and evaluate information concerning employment or employability; or

  • A bachelor's degree.

  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
