About the Position

A Career Advisor & Coach provides personalized career counseling, coaching, and service to a diverse population of students and alumni at various career stages (i.e. exploration to career management) and professional levels (i.e. entry- to executive-level) across all colleges and programs (i.e. certificate to doctoral). The individual must employ knowledge of career development theories, counseling process, coaching techniques, and modern job search strategies to evaluate client needs and develop individualized career action plans. Career coaches must possess effective communication and helping skills to recognize and adapt to diverse client needs and apply appropriate interventions to develop rapport, boost client self-efficacy, and productively work with clients at varying levels of readiness. Career coaches also play an integral role in supporting the content strategy of the UOPX Marketing team by writing original career advice articles and providing subject matter expertise to media and content writers.

What You'll Do

1.Provide individual career counseling, including in-depth assistance with self-assessment, career decision-making and problem solving, goal setting and planning, to students and alumni with all University of Phoenix programs; monitor and document student progress.

2.Administer and interpret career assessment tools to assist students with career planning and decision-making; review and evaluate students' job-search strategies and career marketing collateral (e.g., resume, cover letters, LinkedIn profile), including format/content edits and rewrites based on client needs, input, and career objectives to assist and optimize job search planning and execution.

3.Prepare students for job search by conducting mock interviews, assisting with personal branding, salary negotiation and networking methods.

4.Serve as a subject matter expert about career development theories, models, resources and interventions that facilitate students' skills for career, education and life-work planning and management; maintain knowledge of labor market area, employment trends and occupational areas to help students and alumni make informed career decisions.

5.Support content strategy of the UOPX Marketing team by writing original career advice articles and providing subject matter expertise to media and content writers

6.Collaborate with management and/or campus teams to develop strategies and tactical plans to incorporate career development content into curriculum and expand career services to student population, design and present career and professional development programs and resources.

7.Perform other duties as assigned or apparent.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Bachelor's degree in counseling, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Human Resources, Education, or related field

  • Hold certification as a National Certified Counselor, Certified Career Counselor, Board Certified Coach or ICF Coaching Certification, Global Career Development Facilitator, or possess other related career practitioner certifications and training

  • Three (3) years of career development counseling and/or job search assistance/placement in an education/counseling business setting

  • Able to work nights and weekends to meet students' needs

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Master's Degree in counseling, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Human Resources, Education, or related field

  • Excellent communication skills to guide, influence and motivate students

  • Strong technology skills to perform work over distance

  • Ability to work with diverse populations

  • Proven ability to work independently

Pay Range

The annual pay range for this position is $43,100 (minimum), $60,300 (midpoint), and $77,500 (maximum).*

  • Typical hiring range is between the minimum and midpoint of the above pay range. Actual starting base pay may vary based on factors such as education, experience, skills, location and budget.
