Position Summary:
The Vascular Echo Technician will be responsible for the independent operation of echo and/or vascular equipment in the Clinic, and for performing and communicating results of diagnostic examinations using this equipment. This position will be responsible for the daily operations of the department including patient scheduling, equipment maintenance, the report of equipment failures, and quality assessment. This will include active participation in the development of new procedures which may result from new technology and/or research developments in conjunction with physician requests for such procedures. Technician always maintains a high level of medical ethics and is selfmotivated to increase their level of understanding of the field, disease, and new procedures as they evolve. Vascular/Echo Techs are responsible for interacting in a positive manner with all Clinic staff including physicians and mid-levels providers. Technicians are expected to be courteous and helpful to the Clinic's patients, patient's families, and the Clinic staff at all times.
Independence Physician Management (IPM), a subsidiary of UHS, was formed in 2012 as the physician services unit of UHS. IPM develops and manages multi-specialty physician networks and urgent care clinics which align with UHS acute care facilities. It also provides select services for the Behavioral Health division of UHS. Through continuing growth, IPM operates in 11 markets across six states and the District of Columbia. Qualifications
Required Knowledge, Skills, Licensure, Training & Travel Requirements (if applicable):
Education:
Graduate of a Cardiovascular Technology program
College level courses in anatomy, physiology and medical terminology preferred.
Professional certification/registry is required. All sonographers must be credentialed as required by ICAEL.
ARDMS registry and/or if registry eligible must complete registry within 1 year of employment
CCI registry and/or if registry eligible must complete registry within 1 year of employment
Work experience:

Knowledge:
Has knowledge of echo and/or vascular equipment and its usage and maintenance.
Understand and recognize basic as well as lethal EKG arrhythmias.
Familiarity with medical terminology
Skills:
Proficiency in basic computer programs and operating systems, such as Microsoft Office
Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
Abilities:
Equipment Operated:
Clinic Equipment; ABI/Ultrasound Machine; Computer, other patient care testing
Office equipment such as fax machine, copier and telephone system
Work environment:
Works in a well-lighted, OSHA Standard environment
May be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases
May be in contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances
Occasionally subject to irregular hours
May be required to wear personal protective equipment as necessary
Mental/Physical Requirements:
Must be ability to handle emergency or crisis
Must be able to see with corrective eye wear
Must be able to hear clearly with assistance
Team Responsibilities:
Communicates effectively within and beyond assigned team.
Focuses on the problem or issue, not the person.
Assist with daily clerical operations, including answering multi-phone lines and making copies of documents, as necessary.
Accurately files patient charts; including scanning documents into files, as necessary.
Schedules patient appointments as necessary, return visits and Specialists.
Performs cardiac imaging procedures listed below according to established protocols:
Pulsed, continuous wave, 2D echocardiography
Exercise echocardiography
Pharmacological exercise echocardiography
Performs vascular imaging procedures listed below according to established protocols:
Carotids
Upper and lower venous Doppler
Upper and lower arterial Doppler
Segmental pressures upper and lower
Visceral doppler
Identifies patient's requirements relative to their age specific needs.
Assess patient, their need and ability to tolerate procedure.
Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the differences in techniques and procedure modalities as performed on patients of varying ages.
Takes appropriate actions during patient emergencies and always ensures patient safety.
Reviews, collects, and evaluates relevant clinical data.
Documents all pertinent data on the patient's medical record following completion of any service.
Provides technical assistance to physician as required.
Prepares echo/vascular report for interpreting physician making all necessary calculations and notations.
Assist with VNUS and/or Laser and Phlebotomy procedures.
Assist in maintaining all quality control, clinic inspection, and machine maintenance daily,and report any and all discrepancies appropriately.
Additional duties as assigned.
