Position Summary

The Cardiovascular Technologist I assists with the performance of cardiac catheterization procedures, utilizing at least abasic clinical skill level knowledge base. Assists with the collection and documentation of clinical data. Interprets this patient data by recognizing changes in the patient's hemodynamic status. Reports these changes to the appropriate personnel (i.e., physicians, physician extenders, nurses, supervisor, etc.) Utilizes a multi-disciplinary approach to help provide appropriate patient care in a safe environment. Demonstrates appropriate and correct use of patient care equipment (i.e., defibrillator, NIBP, doppler, etc.), insuring that this item is clean, in working order, and has a current Bio-med sticker. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures involved in the operation of the radiographic equipment used for cath procedures. Demonstrates the ability to perform computerized hemodynamic monitoring and recording. Demonstrates the ability to set up and assist as scrub tech with diagnostic and interventional cardiac and peripheral procedures. Demonstrates knowledge and proper use of aseptic techniques used to prepare trays, prep patients, and scrub cases. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills to provide appropriate care to patients of all developmental stages: Infant, child, adolescent, adult and elderly. Demonstrates the skills necessary to assist with patient emergencies. Demonstrates competency in pulling sheaths and recognizing bleeding complications. Maintains a clean and stocked work area. Assists RN in attaching and removing monitor equipment from the patient. Demonstrates cost-effective use of supplies and participates in maintaining appropriate inventory.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School or GED or higher degree required

  • Required training or education requirements:

  • Allied Health (Radiology Technologist, Nuclear Technologist, CT Technologist or Respiratory Therapist) degree with valid NC license/registration OR RN with one year relevant experience and valid NC RN license OR Graduate of a two year AD Cardiovascular program with valid diploma OR High School graduate with current RCIS certification and two years related work experience in cardiac cath lab or electrophysiology lab.

Clinical Ladder

Cardiovascular Technologist I:

Minimum Position Requirements:

  • High School or GED or higher degree required.

  • Required training or education requirements: Allied Health (Radiology Technologist, Nuclear Technologist, CT Technologist or Respiratory Therapist) degree with valid NC license/registration OR RN with one year relevant experience and valid NC RN license OR Graduate of a two year AD Cardiovascular program with valid diploma OR High School graduate with current RCIS certification and two years related work experience in cardiac cath lab or electrophysiology lab.

Cardiovascular Technologist II:

Minimum Position Requirements:

  • Associate degree in Radiologic Technology (RT-R).

  • An additional year in special imaging (invasive) is preferred for RT-R graduates.

  • ARRT certification is required OR Associate degree in Cardiovascular Technology with RCIS (RCVT) certification.

  • One year experience as a technician in a radiology area (i.e. Cath Lab, EP Lab, Vascular, etc.)

  • American Heart Association BLS certification

  • Demonstration of an appropriate technical skill level in the Cath Lab.

Cardiovascular Technologist III:

Minimum Position Requirements:

  • Associate degree in Radiologic Technology (RT-R).

  • An additional year in special imaging (invasive) is preferred for RT-R graduates.

  • ARRT certification is required OR Associate degree in Cardiovascular Technology.

  • Two years of experience as a technician in a Radiology area (i.e. Cath Lab, EP Lab, Vascular, etc.).

  • American Heart Association BLS certification is required.

Cardiovascular Technologist IV:

Minimum Position Requirements:

  • Associate degree in Radiologic Technology (RT-R) is required.

  • An additional year in special imaging (invasive) is preferred for RT-R graduates.

  • ARRT certification is required OR Associate degree in Cardiovascular Technology.

  • Three years of experience as a technician in a Cath Lab is required.

  • American Heart Association BLS certification is required.

  • Demonstration of an appropriate technical skill level in the Cath Lab.

Other Information

  • Primary Shift: Day

  • Four 10 hour days per week

  • One designated late shift per week

  • One night of call per week

  • One weekend of call per six week schedule

  • On Call: Yes

  • Weekends: Rotating
