Functions/Duties of Position

The Cardiovascular Services Clinical Reviewer has the responsibility for collecting and coordinating data related to OHSUs cardiology patients, specifically those here for atrial fibrillation intervention and is the primary clinical reviewer for the NCDR Afib ablation registry for OHSU, in addition to the NCDR registries for Tuality Hospital. Duties include collecting concurrent and retrospective data for the NCDR AFib Ablation Registry, NCDR Cath PCI registry, and NCDR Chest Pain MI registry, assuring integrity of data collection and data entry for data submittal and data repository; reporting clinical outcomes and descriptive data, and integrating findings into quality improvement activities. They are responsible for working in coordination with other clinical reviewers on accurate and timely collection and transmission of data in accordance with the guidelines established by the national registries, and performing data queries of databases as requested. The clinical reviewer will stay proactively appraised of any definitional, specification, or reporting changes within the registries and will actively collaborate with the registry and associated software vendor(s). They will collaborate with and support cardiovascular services and other cardiovascular clinical reviewers including adult cardiac surgery, heart failure, and the other NCDR registries. The will work collaboratively with their clinician partners, and other members of the Quality Management department.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree in a business or healthcare field and 2 years of experience that included analytical, database, and/or spreadsheet, technical writing, quantitative analysis or use of statistical principles; OR

  • Associates degree in a business or healthcare field and 4 years of experience that included analytical, database and/or spreadsheet, technical writing, quantitative analysis or use of statistical principles; OR

  • 6 years of experience that included analytical, database, and/or spreadsheet, technical writing, quantitative analysis or use of statistical principles; OR

  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience

  • 6 months minimum experience in hospital surgery department, surgery clinic, cardiovascular unit, clinical research, or medical record reviewer

  • clinical chart review and abstraction experience or experience in medical database entry

  • experience working with national registries or databases

  • Proficient computer skills including the use of MS Office products, basic statistical skills, and internet navigation

  • Experience with relational databases and data quality methods

  • Clinical knowledge and understanding of patient care; experience in clinical chart review and abstraction

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree in healthcare related field

  • Surgical/procedural data collection experience

  • Perioperative or cardiac catheterization experience

  • Access and Excel proficiency

  • Quality improvement and patient safety knowledge and experience

  • Advanced statistical knowledge and experience
