  • GENERAL SUMMARY

  • The Cardiovascular Invasive Technologist Lead reports to the Cardiac Service Line Manager/ Director. Under supervision of the physician, performs diagnostic and interventional procedures and assists physician in all aspects of cardiac invasive and non-invasive testing, diagnostic laboratory tests and procedures following established policies, guidelines, and regulations. The Cardiovascular Invasive Technologist lead educates patients and families, actively participates in research projects, safely maintains Cath lab and other diagnostic equipment, initiates on-going quality assurance, and effectively maintains Cath lab regulatory and accreditation requirements.

  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Consistently and accurately performs prescribed procedures and effectively assists physician provider following established policies, procedures, and regulatory guidelines.

  • Performs clinical duties under the supervision and within the scope of clinical education/ training, practice, and expertise.

  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge and understanding of cardiac invasive and non-invasive testing.

  • Maintains quality assurance programs and documentation as required by equipment regulations and guidelines.

  • Establishes and updates appropriate documentation for Cath lab policies, procedures, and protocols.

  • Safely operates and maintains skilled, working knowledge of all equipment with emphasis on physiologic monitoring for diagnostic, interventional, and electrophysiology procedures.

  • Safely operates and maintains Cath lab and other diagnostic equipment.

  • Maintains staffing, procedures, supplies, and medications within the hemodynamic monitoring system to ensure pertinent case information is readily available.

  • Oversees the charge reconciliation process by obtaining pertinent charge and billing information.

  • Oversees the supply inventory processes and works with data coordinator to monitor usage and waste.

  • Coordinates training/in-services and preventative maintenance appointments with vendors and acts as point of contact for troubleshooting issues with vendors.

  • Communicates effectively with patients and family members, providing on-going education as needed.

  • Ensures radiation safety adhering to radiation safety guidelines and procedures.

  • Participates actively in lab to decrease radiation exposure to patients and staff through enforcement of proper technique.

  • Ensures integrity of all lead aprons is maintained by performing routine assessment of lead.

  • Operates imaging equipment related to imaging processing, image transmission, archiving, and computerized information system and assists in imaging procedures.

  • Serves as a technical and functional resource, as well as provides scrub, circulate, and monitor assistance to physician during catheterization/electrophysiology procedures with team members.

  • Serves as preceptor for new students and new staff.

  • Assists with patient care, setup, positioning of patient, patient transport, and room turnaround.

  • Attends all required system and departmental education opportunities and participates in achievement of organizational and departmental goals.

  • Maintains professional growth by ensuring the completion of continuing education requirements.

  • Oversees maintenance of staff certification and training renewals.

  • Leads and coordinates shift operations of coverage, assigned activities, and resources.

  • Efficiently maintains inventory of equipment and supplies for catheterization/electrophysiology lab.

  • Participates in quality improvement and program development initiatives with leadership.

  • Assists in the preparation of annual performance evaluations of staff.

  • Participates in the recruitment process of new staff.

  • Oversees quarterly medical record audits for completed cases.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS

  • Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Technologist (RCIS).

  • CPR Training required and/or must be obtained within 45 days of hire.

  • PALS and ACLS certification required and/or must be obtained and maintained within 12 months of hire.

  • MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Completion of an accredited Cardiac Technology program, Associate, or Baccalaureate program in health science required.

  • Minimum of 5 years of pediatric experience required.

  • Minimum of 1 year of leadership experience preferred.

  • Knowledge and skill in invasive procedures protocols, equipment and instrumentation specific to cardiac invasive procedures preferred.

  • Interpersonal skills necessary for effective communication with physicians, nursing personnel, clinicians, other support staff, patients, and families.

  • Demonstrates the skill set to work independently.

  • Ability to accommodate after hour call coverage.

  • Must provide record of a completed diploma (or equivalent) or academic transcript for those areas performing complexity testing

  • WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Possible exposure to infectious agents when handling specimens or hazardous materials but potential for personal harm or injury is reduced when proper safety and health precautions are followed.
