In this role, you have the opportunity to

You will support the Image Guided Therapy (IGT) Clinical Education (Cardiac Cath Lab/Interventional Radiology) Training Team for the NORTHEAST* by providing basic through intermediate application training in hospitals and clinics across North America.


  • Conduct training at hospitals and clinics throughout North America, adhering to established Philips training processes and guidelines and established customer site policies. Assess and document user competency and award continuing education credits when appropriate.

  • Contribute to the resolution of equipment and applications issues and immediately escalate any customer issues as required. Communicate status to customer. Effectively manage customer situations for best outcome. Participate in trade shows as assigned.

  • Contribute subject matter to include clinical protocols, sample images and tech tips.

  • Participate in projects as a project team member in order to gain insight into the business and to assist our Clinical Education Training Specialists to continually improve the quality of our training programs.

  • Maintain professional license. Continue professional development including continuing education and conference attendance. Be proactive in keeping abreast of current medical knowledge and technology.

  • Accurately complete and distribute all required paperwork and reports associated with training within seven days of the training. Maintain company assets (i.e. computer, company vehicle, etc.).

  • Extensive overnight travel required (80%). Some weekend and international travel is also required.

As part of the Clinical Field Education Team you will support our customers by delivering best in class training, ultimately impacting patient outcomes.

To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience

  • Three years of clinical experience in the assigned modality or two years of experience in a field applications role.

  • Expert knowledge of at least one current product for basic applications and one advanced application on Philips equipment is preferred. Volcano experience is a plus.

  • Ability to utilize problem-solving, critical thinking and priority-setting skills.

  • Strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills to execute training curriculum and professionally deal with a diverse set of problematic circumstances that surround difficult or demanding customer situations in a friendly and constructive manner using adult learning based guidelines.

  • Good computer skills including equipment system operation and Microsoft Office products.

  • Maintain professional credential as an Registered Technologist with ARRT American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. (must have current credential to be considered)

  • Must have advanced certification in at least one of the following: (CV), Cardiovascular Interventional Radiology (CV), Cardiac Interventional Radiography (CI), Vascular Interventional Radiography (VI) (must have one of the above to be considered)

  • B.S. degree or equivalent preferred.

  • Continue professional development including continuing education and conference attendance

  • Be proactive in keeping abreast of current medical knowledge and technology

  • Successfully complete the New Hire and Mentor Process

  • Accurately complete and distribute all required paperwork and reports associated with training within seven days of the training

  • Contribute to meeting the business objectives of zone

  • Extensive overnight travel required (80%). Some weekend travel and international travel is also required.

  • This position will require you to meet all customer specific mandates such as vaccinations and or screening tests.

  • Territory Includes: CT, DC, DE, MA, MD, ME, NH, NY, RI, VA, VT, WV and East PA. Candidates can live anywhere in the territory but it must be in close proximity to a major airport. We strongly prefer to have a candidate in the Boston, NYC/NJ, Philadelphia or Baltimore/DC areas.

This position provides engineering and clinical support to BWHNeurosurgery physicians, residents, nursing and support staff to optimize theutilization of surgical navigation and the application of image guided surgerytechnology in the operating room environment. She/he will participate in the equipment acquisition process regardingthe technical requirements and cost effectiveness of proposed Image GuidedSurgery purchases. She/he will providetraining to nurses, physicians, technicians and other Biomedical Engineeringpersonnel in understanding the theory and safe operation of image guidedsurgery and surgical navigation equipment to ensure the quality of patientcare. She/he will be responsible for theuse and maintenance of Image Guided Systems and their related peripherals. She/he will be responsible for thecomprehensive technical support of highly sophisticated biomedicalinstrumentation systems and equipment used in Neurosurgery/ ORL (includingstereotactic equipment, intraoperative MRI, frameless stereotaxy, variouscurrent and future digital-imaging systems). She/he will provide clinical/ technical support that extend well beyondmaintenance and repair. Worksindependently and in collaboration with the neurosurgical faculty, NeuroRadiology, the Department of Radiology, both CT and MRI, Central SterileProcessing and industry representatives to expedite the surgical schedule andfurther develop the use of frameless stereotaxy in endoscopic, spinal, vascularand functional neurosurgery. Reports tothe Chief of Neurosurgery/ ORL. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Responsible for the care,maintenance and operation of biomedical instrumentation systems and equipmentused by Neurosurgery and ORL including (but not limited to) the following: * Frameless stereotaxy equipment * Frame based equipment * Intraoperative MR equipment * Computer guided endoscopicequipment * Skull base neurosurgeryequipment * Neurovascular surgery equipment * Transphenoidal equipment(particularly in the intraoperative MRI environment) * Neurosurgical spinal equipment * Operative neurosurgical/ ORLmicroscopes * Still and video digitalequipment * Medtronic O-Arm With general guidance of the surgeon, leads neurosurgicalplanning through all stages of the operation while working with amulti-disciplinary team of internal and external customers. Assist with capital equipment purchases. Works with clinical and/or research todesign, implement and analyze studies for new medical evaluations and trials. Assists in performing needsassessment, financial analyses, productivity analyses as they relate to theprocurement of biomedical devices, imaging equipment, and software for clinicaluse. Maintainsa proficient level of image guided surgery Clinical Engineering expertise toact as a resource to the department of Neurosurgery and external departments asneeded. Troubleshootsthese digital, video and computer related systems, particularly preoperativelyand during surgeries and assists neurosurgeons in utilization and editing. Takelead role in optimizing the workflow for obtaining both pre and intra operativeimages in the iCT suite and then train and guide surgeons, residents,anesthesia, nursing and support personnel. Mayassist in designing, developing, and adapting equipment for a specific patientneed or research. Developsand manages schedule of preventative maintenance, establishing maintenanceprotocols as necessary. Reviews maintenance protocols developed bymanufacturers and biomedical engineering. Calibratesand troubleshoots neurosurgery equipment and biomedical instrumentation systemsto assure they operate properly and are in compliance with all applicable codesand standards. Seeks ways to reducebreakdowns, eliminate safety hazards, and enhance accuracy and reliability.Refers irresolvable technical problems to biomedical engineering only if theitem is covered by warranty, by a service contract, or needs to be returned tothe manufacturer for repair. Evaluatesthe equipment performance to ensure the validity and efficiency of operation bydetermining and utilizing appropriate test setup. He/she may use conventionalStandard Test Equipment, High Level Test Equipment and/or develop a techniqueor unconventional application for the equipment being reviewed. Trainsand provides on-going updates to physicians and nurses in correct equipmentusage and operation. Determines equipment and supplyneeds and notifies procurement personnel to order. Interacts regularly withphysicians, nurses, technicians, support personnel, administrative personnel,and manufacturer representatives. Workwith and assist radiology teams in Partners affiliated locations such as MGHChelsea and MGH Danvers in performing the proper protocols to obtain imagesneeded for IGS. Attendand participate in every huddle and hard stop time out, informing surgeons,resident, anesthesia, nursing and support personnel on steps and proceduresneed to ensure successful group cohesion in IGS procedures. Useknowledge of brain anatomy to create image guided stereotactic trajectories andobtain CRW coordinates for DBS and biopsy cases under supervision of attendingsurgeon. Createoptimized workflow for IGS biopsies and then train and guide residents,nursing, and support personnel in the OR on the proper use and workflow ofimage guided frameless stereotactic biopsy procedures. Consultwith Neuro Radiology to create image guidance modules such as fiber trackingand convert fMRI data into objects to be used as visual markers in image guidedsurgery. Createoptimized workflow for obtaining both pre and intra operative images in the iCTsuite and then train and guide surgeons, residents, anesthesia, nursing andsupport personnel. Directsurgeons, anesthesia, nursing and support personnel in proper set up of the iCTsuite for pre - intra- and post operative scans. Loading navigation imagesoperatively and then fusing them to operative scans. Consultwith surgeons and CT technologists every morning on the proper iCT radiologyprotocols to obtain images needed for image guided surgery. IntegrateNeurosurgery's IGS systems and equipment with hospital's audio visual mainframeand create and edit video for surgeons. Consultwith surgeons and iMRI technologistsevery morning on the proper iMRI radiology protocols to obtain images neededfor image guided surgery. QUALIFICATIONS * Bachelor Degree and 2 years of priorrelated experience required. * Prior training and/or experience withintraoperative computer oriented systems and digital imaging systems. * Creativity in using this equipment in theoperating room setting is important. SKILLS AND ABILITIESREQUIRED * Strong critical thinking skills andindependent judgement * Understanding of anatomy and physiologyand medical terminology * Available to me "on call evenings andweekends. * Human relation and interpersonal skills of a level necessary tomanage an operational team in the complex OR environment; ability to interactand communicate with most hospital personnel. * Knowledgeof optics, mechanics, computers and electrical safety for application todifficult problems in the highsophisticated biomedical instrumentation systems and equipment used byneurosurgery. * Knowledge of operating roomprocedures and priorities. * Knowledgeof medical instrumentation and clinical use models of medical instrumentation. * Abilityto work quickly and expertly in assistance to neurosurgeons and nursing staff. * Ability to interpret and useregulatory agency guidelines and standards, equipment maintenance guidelines,and service manuals.
