North Florida Regional Medical is seeking a nurse practitioner or physician assistant to work with their growing cardiothoracic surgical team in the CVICU (Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit).

Schedule:

  • 10 hour shifts
  • 17 shifts / month

Summary of Essential Job Duties:

Under the supervision of the Cardiothoracic Surgeons and within the Nurse Practitioner's competence, the Nurse Practitioner provides medical services to adult cardiothoracic surgical patients. The Nurse Practitioner will care for the patients in the cardiac surgery ICU ranging from thoracic surgery, CABG and valve replacement/repairs including TAVR to implantable VADs, ECMO and aneurysm repairs. In addition, the Nurse Practitioner will perform bedside procedures within the scope of service, will write progress notes, participate in daily rounds, write orders, dictate discharge notes, and participate in hospital wide quality improvement initiatives. The Nurse Practitioner will collaborate with multidisciplinary team members, and ensure continuity of care.

Educational Requirements:

  • Master of Nursing Degree or Physician's Assistant Licensure required

  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse practitioner program approved by the Florida Board of Registered Nursing or Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program approved by the Florida Board of Medicine

License/Certification/Registration

Requirements:
  • Current State of Florida Nurse Practitioner or Physician's Assistant License

  • National Certification by respective accredited professional nursing organization such as the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) or National Commission on Certification of Physicians Assistant's (NCCPA).

  • Current BLS/ACLS certification

Experience:

  • New graduates welcomed

  • Experience with managing cardiothoracic surgery patients or cardiac patients is preferred

  • ICU experience preferred

  • Working experience as a Nurse Practitioner/PA preferred

This position will be responsible for assisting with the clinical research programs within the division. Under direction and in collaboration with senior clinical study coordinator, assists in managing ongoing clinical research trials within the Division of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery including data collection and trial protocol compliance. Performs subject screening and consent for clinical protocols under direction of Principal Investigator. Serves as patient resource and educator for information regarding the study or clinical symptoms. Prepares and ships central laboratory samples as per protocol requirements. Collects baseline and follow-up data from the medical record. Documents findings in appropriate source records and case report forms. This position will also be expected to communicate with nursing staff and OR Staff about patient care according to protocols. Assist with operating room protocol requirements where appropriate. Schedule and attends clinic appointments for patients as required by protocol. Interact with local laboratories and diagnostic study centers to ensure clinical protocol requirements are complete for studies. Collaborates with medical and scientific partners to design protocol methodologies for basic science, preclinical studies, and clinical protocols. Assesses clinical needs by performing literature review and discussion with faculty advisors within Division. Helps with protocol development and protocol endpoints to ensure statistical and clinical relevance of studies. Prepares and submits filings of protocols to Investigational Review Board and Animal Care Committees as needed. Designs Case Report Forms and Source Documents for clinical protocols where required. Assists with grant development projects. Maintains awareness of Good Laboratory Practices as needed for preclinical studies within Division. Assists with manuscript preparation and abstract submission for principal investigators. Works with senior clinical trial coordinator to submit protocols to the RAC and IRB offices to assure compliance. Coordinates efforts of Investigational Pharmacist and maintains site records for Good Clinical Practice and sponsor guidelines. Records patient symptoms and adverse events in conjunction with care providers. Reports and follows up adverse events and serious adverse events, after discussion with Principal Investigator, to sponsor and Investigational Review Board as required by protocol. Organizes and maintains regulatory files for clinical studies performed within Division Prepares & negotiates budgets for project-specific activities in collaboration with supervisor. Maintains communications with industrial study sponsors Maintains working knowledge of computing skills: Microsoft Word for Windows, PowerPoint, Access, and Excel. Facilitates efforts for ongoing database(s) within the Division. Communicates with interdisciplinary health team in care of patients involved in research studies to ensure regulatory compliance. Interacts with institutional Investigational Review Board under direction of Principal Investigator for clinical research protocols. Advertised Salary: $45,000-$50,000; commensurate with education and experience. Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
