The Cardiology Tech 3 performs all EKG and other testing procedures to support physicians in the delivery of patient care, as well as instructs, trains and mentors junior staff. Records electromotive variations in action of heart muscle by using electrocardiograph machine to provide data for diagnosis of heart ailments.


Participates in the training of junior staff to assist their developmental efforts. Instructs and trains new personnel in the proper use of equipment and testing protocols in a professional manner. Mentors junior techs in the proper procedures of arrhythmia recognition to ensure their use of safe testing methods.
Completes all necessary steps to acquire and process electrocardiograms. Explains test procedures as needed to prepare patients for the process and to provide them with the necessary instructions. Reviews medical record and documentation before each stress test to ensure department standards for safety and appropriate procedure have been met.Utilizes all equipment associated with EKG procedures properly and records the necessary information accurately to obtain high quality results.
Monitors vital signs as well as recording EKG data during study to ensure safety of patient; recognizes life-threatening arrhythmias and notifies physician of abnormal results. Performs Signal Average EKGs.
Performs Holter monitor hookup using established policy. Also hooks up Event recorders and TTM's and edits data for interpretation by a physician. Independently scans Holter monitor tapes and assembles report for physician to read. Performs Treadmill Stress Tests and monitors patient?s vital signs to ensure patient safety. Performs EECP treatments. Performs Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring.
Takes call to ensure coverage for illness and emergency stress tests during nights and weekends.
Performs basic functions on MUSE EKG database system. Downloads EKG's accurately for proper storage and retrieval; performs retrievals, editing and backups as necessary to maintain the integrity of the data. Prints record and attaches proper documentation to tracing for all billing transactions. Performs retrieval and report distribution tasks quickly and efficiently. Inputs patient demographic and test data into computerized EKG machine accurately and in a timely manner. Performs regular data backup and routine problem solving on the system.
Participates as part of diagnostic team, when working with other departments, to provide ancillary cardiac testing services.
Fulfills continuing education and/or certification requirements to maintain required qualifications. Takes responsibility to understand and complete professional and technical requirements and provides necessary documentation on such requirements.
Maintains cleanliness of work area, including monitoring supplies. Maintains equipment in operational condition by replenishing paper and reporting any problems to the appropriate person in a conscientious and timely manner.


Must be able to pass departmental skills evaluation.
Use of basic office equipment and computer literacy required.
Ability to multi-task and self-lead problem solving skills.
Ability to demonstrate precision and flexibility.

The Advanced Practice Provider provides medical care based upon the scope of practice as delineated by the supervising physician. These providers work in a specialty clinic, and may specialize in Palliative Care, Pulmonary, Infectious Disease, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Cardiology, Dermatology, Urology, Nephrology, Neurology, Hematology, Oncology, Allergy and Immunology, Rheumatology or other medical specialty. * ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE* Assesses the physical and mental condition of patients by performing and obtaining comprehensive or problem-focused physical examinations and medical histories. Orders, collects, interprets, and evaluates laboratory and other diagnostic tests to assess patient problems and health care needs. Prescribes, recommends and/or employs medical drug therapies or other forms of related therapeutic treatments and procedures or performs indicated procedures in accordance with approved protocols/policies with attention to efficacy, safety, and cost. Recommends interventions to modify behavior associated with health risks. Formulates and implements comprehensive outcomes-based patient treatment plans based on patient assessments, evidence-based medicine, standards of care, professional practice guidelines and in collaboration with physicians and other interdisciplinary team members when appropriate. Evaluates patient's response to health care provided and the effectiveness of care. Counsels patients and families regarding medical processes, management of the health illness/condition, medication, nutrition, and health promotion. Counsels patients about drug regimens and possible side effects or interactions with other substances such as food supplements, over the counter medications and herbal remedies. Maintains appropriate records detailing the patient's treatment plans and outcomes. Initiates timely consultation and referral when the problem exceeds scope of practice and/or expertise. Provides consultation level services for conditions/problems related to the Provider's specialty and training. Manages patients in a healthcare setting(s) other than primary clinic setting (e.g., inpatient, emergency services, procedural, etc.).
