Cardio Nuclear Medical Technologist - Per Diem Day

Job Description:

Under the supervision of a Nuclear Cardiologist, performs various nuclear cardiology procedures. Operates Nuclear Medicine apparatus and auxiliary equipment.

  • Prepares patient for nuclear cardiology examination.

  • Explains procedure in layman terms to relieve patient of anxiety.

  • Ensures patient is screened according to protocol, and assures consent for procedure has been obtained, when necessary.

  • Positions patient on examination table for optimum testing procedure and conditions.

  • Sets-up equipment to administer the proper procedure in timely fashion.

  • Performs nuclear cardiology procedures as prescribed by ordering physician.

  • Calculates, prepares and dispenses radiopharmaceuticals to patient. Documents radiopharmaceuticals dispensed.

  • Obtains requested images using proper techniques. Determines need for more extensive evaluations beyond preliminary instructions.

  • Collects all pertinent data and calculations for physician interpretation.

  • Monitors patient condition by directly observing patient during examination, recognizing and reporting abnormal changes.

  • Acknowledges and reviews images in computer system. Ensures accuracy of all patient data. Processes imaging and prints CDs, as required.

  • Gathers previous related patient reports, as required.

  • Performs minor repairs and frequent calibration checks and adjusts equipment. Reports equipment issues to management, as required.

  • Adheres to Safety and Infection Control guidelines in the performance of duties. Maintains cleanliness of work area, equipment and accessories.

  • Performs related duties as required.

  • ADA Essential Functions

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Nuclear Medicine program, required.

  • Current New York State Department of Health licensure as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist, required.

  • R.T. (N) registration with American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) OR CNMT registration with Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB), required.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, required.

  • Prior Nuclear Medicine experience, preferred

  • Ability to communicate effectively, required.
