Reports to Director. Observes telemetry monitors and recognizes arrhythmias. Provides safe patient environment. Exhibits exceptional patient experience by upholding Beacon values of respect, trust, integrity and compassion. Functions within the relationship based care nursing model.

Supports the Central Monitoring Unit by:

  • Supply, inventory and unit maintenance.

  • Monitors stock supplies and materials and reports shortages.

  • Keeps the department areas neat and orderly.

  • Giving change of shift report.

  • Keep noise level at a minimum.

  • Utilize tele-tracking for unit assignments.

  • Maintain attentiveness at all times for patient events.

  • Recommend changing posture/position for proper ergonomics.

Supports the Patient Care Unit by:

  • Performs a variety of telemetry monitoring duties by Interpreting rhythm strips in an accurate and timely manner at prescribed intervals and as needed with changes.

  • Maintains alarm settings at a level required for patient safety.

  • Maintain communication with nursing staff throughout the shift.

  • Understands and follows the escalation algorithm appropriately.

  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with unit staff.

  • Participates in the documentation of cardiac rhythms throughout the shift.

Contributes to the overall effectiveness of the department:

  • Completes other job-related duties and projects as assigned.

ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Associate complies with the following organizational requirements:

  • Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.

  • Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes.

  • Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.

  • Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.

  • Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department.

  • Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.

  • Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.

  • Complies with established organization and department policies.

  • Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.

Education and Experience

  • The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are acquired through the successful completion of a high school diploma or equivalent is preferred. Must be a minimum of 17 years of age. Must have passing score on basic dysrhythmia test before completion of orientation. Must successfully complete a minimum of annual dysrhythmia exams with a minimum score of 80% and get all lethal rhythms correct. Medical terminology preferred. Basic computer skills required. Current Cardiac Dysrhythmia preferred.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Must successfully complete a minimum of annual dysrhythmia exams with a passing score of 80% and get all lethal rhythms correct.

  • Demonstrates ability to read, legibly print or write, correctly spell medical and non-medical terms and understand and follow verbal and written instructions.

  • Identifies and communicates abnormal EKG patterns.

  • Requires the ability to work with minimal supervision and handle multiple activities concurrently, as well as able to prioritize work.

  • Demonstrates interpersonal and communication skills necessary to deal tactfully and effectively with members of the healthcare team.

  • Requires proficiency in computer skills and sufficient keyboarding skills to complete the work assigned accurately and in a reasonable amount of time.

Physical Demands

  • Requires the physical ability and stamina (i.e. to sit/stand for prolonged periods of time to perform the essential functions of the position.
