SCHEDULE: 0.9 (36 hours per week), SHIFT: Mixed, 8 hour shifts with rotating weekends.
Under minimal supervision, prepares for surgical procedures and arranges sterile set-up of instrument table according to established procedures. Assists surgeons by passing instruments, medications, supplies, holding retractors, and anticipating surgeons' needs during the course of surgery. Takes responsibility for instruments in the operating room and stores supplies and equipment. Performs quality monitoring and maintains records and. reports results.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Scrubs for cases according to established techniques; dons sterile gown and gloves, surgeons with the same aseptic and assists
Prepares for sterile set instruments procedures nurse with following scheduled operative procedure by arranging up of instrument table with linens, and sutures required for specific according to surgeon's preference. Counting of instruments, sponges and needles per the established policies. Labels medications and irrigation solutions on the sterile field.
Assists surgeons with draping and positioning patient as necessary.
Passes instruments, sponges, sutures and other sterile supplies and equipment to surgeons and assistants during procedures, holds retraction devices and acts anticipate and respond to surgeon's needs during the course of surgery.
Receives surgical specimens and notify circulating nurse of source of material.
Assists surgeon with sterile dressing of operative site following closing.
Cleans operative field following each case by removing drapes, disposing of used supplies, returns instruments to decontamination area, and makes instrument technician aware of instruments requiring special handling.
Performs related clerical and service duties selecting supplies, instruments and equipment following procedures, answering telephones, messages, transporting patients to and from assisting in the cleaning of the operating according to established procedures such as for relaying surgery and room. Gather supplies, instruments and non-controlled medications for surgical cases.
May act as second circulator with a Registered Nurse.
Keeps current regarding developments in surgical equipment, trends and techniques, through appropriate in-service programs.
Communicates with problem solving for improvement supervisor and participates in department projects of patient care.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1.Reading, writing arid communication skills.
2.Knowledge of basic anatomy, physiology, operating room and patient safety, body substance isolation, and medical terminology.
3.Successful completion of a program in operating room procedures, surgical instrumentation and sterile technique
4.Minimum one year experience.
5.Current BCLS certification required.
6.Interpersonal skills necessary to interact with patients, surgeons and other patient care personnel, often during emergency or stressful situations.
7.Self motivated and able to function without Direct Supervision while maintaining accountability for Performance.
8.Must be able in emergencies to anticipate to react quickly and calmly needs of department, surgeons and patients and secure appropriate results.
9.Analytical and concentration skills to organize prepare and execute the technical tasks required
