Experience:

At least 5 years experience in Adult Echocardiography

Education:

Minimum Associates degree or 2 year equivalent (equal or related)

BS or BA preferred

Certification:

Current RDCS or RCS required

CPR certified

Responsibilities:In addition to Level II responsibilities:

  1. Assume administrative responsibilities as needed

  2. Assist with scheduling responsibilities

  3. Teach junior personnel and provide back-up

  4. Able to observe, be proactive and flexible as the schedule demands

  5. Take initiative to problem solve

  6. Be receptive to queries from administrative support staff for optimal running of Lab

  7. Help guide administrative support staff when technical/scheduling questions arise

  8. Set example for junior personnel


Competencies:

  1. Ability to speak English well in order to communicate with staff and patients.

  2. Able to push a 225lb ultrasound machine to optimize image capture within designated suite.

  3. Comply with patient privacy and safety guidelines (e.g. patient identifiers). 4) Practice infection control standards.


Appendix 1 (Level II Responsibilities):

  1. Perform complete echocardiographic examination independently (and if new to MGH within six months of employment).

  2. Acquire echocardiographic examination in digital format

  3. Understand reasons for individual patient exams, reviews patient history and


if possible, review prior report/images.



  1. Prepare a preliminary report with accurate measures and appropriate statements.

  2. Prepare billing form accurately and submit daily.

  3. Learn to use a variety of ultrasound equipment


  • GE, Philips, etc.

  1. Perform expected volume of studies on a consistent basis (6 studies/day

  • 8 hour; 8 studies/day

  • 10 hour).


  1. Perform echoes in outpatient setting independently and/or with support of RN/PA.

  2. Learn scheduling rotation matrix.

  3. Learn/understand the components of weekly reading schedule.

  4. Perform saline bubble studies.

  5. Become proficient in use of LVO agents: Definity and Optison, etc.

  6. Become proficient in 3D imaging.

  7. Eligible to perform dobutamine or bicycle stress echocardiograms.

  8. Understand overall functioning of Laboratory (Inpatient and Outpatient). 16) Assist with training junior personnel.

  9. Participate in research protocols as needed.

  10. Attend Wednesday conference if during a scheduled workday.

  11. Develop good time management and organizational skills.

  12. Ask questions as necessary regarding protocols, diagnoses, image optimization and other areas of Lab function, etc.


1.Miscellaneous tasks as assigned by Lab leadership.

2.Carry a pager and respond within a reasonable time frame

3.Proofreading of finalized echo reports

4.Cleaning of machines and probes after exam and restocking rooms
