Overview

Seeking a Cardiac Sonographer to perform cardiovascular technology evaluation procedures such as electrocardiography (ECG), Holter monitoring, cardiac ultrasound and echocardiography, exercise stress testing, and pacemaker evaluation to observe, monitor, and evaluate cardiac function.

Responsibilities

Sets up examination rooms ensuring that all necessary equipment is ready. Maintains orderliness And cleanliness of work area. Follows infection control practices
Obtains all appropriate documentation. Maintains record keeping in Echo Lab.
Coordinates work schedule with Practice Manager to assure workload coverage. Folllows Hospital, Department policies and procedures, and follows code of conduct policy.
Participates in the echo reading sessions when available.
Patient Care- Explains procedures and observes patients to ensure safety and comfort during exam. Provide assistance with such tasks as dressing and changing to seriously ill, injured or disabled patients. Coordinates with other staff to assure appropriate patient care is provided.
Supplies-Requests and orders supplies as necessary to keep Material on hand at all times.
Equipment: Reports equipment failures to the appropriate supervisor or staff member.
Quality Assurance/Control- Assists with quality control/assurance programs. Participates in quality control projects as needed.
Computer System- Follows department and hospital protocols for use of the hospital computer system
Sterile Techniques-Practices when required by procedure.
Patients- Transports patients to examination room. Prepares and maintains Room. Transports patients to other area of hospital.
Communicates with Practice Manager concerning problems in the work area and working conditions. Participates in the problem solving process in a positive manner.
Assessment- Meets the psycho-social needs of the patients being served. Demonstrates competency in the delivery of patient care in a manner that is appropriate to the patient's age, physical ability and intellectual development.
Echocardiography - Performs the echocardiogram according to AHA guidelines.
Performs stress test hook-ups, Halter Monitors, EKG's, blood pressures. Assists in the clinical area when the echo schedule permits and/or when POD nurse requests.
Explains procedures to patient and carries out procedures under direction of physician.
Observes hear activity and monitors test results for abnormal patterns.
Uses knowledge of cardiac-function patterns to to evaluate results observed.
Records all findings and incorporates theses into patients medical records.
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient ranging from newborn to geriatric.
Makes preliminary analysis and interpretation of test results for physician's further study and diagnosis.
Maintains all equipment in proper working order and reports any malfunction immediately.

Qualifications

Education Required:

Associate' s degree in cardiovascular technology.

Experience Required:

Three years experience performing cardiovascular tests in a supervised setting.

Skills Required:

Registered (or registry eligible) technician in adult echocardiography. BCLS certification

Eligible for registry by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.

VIEW JOBS Overview Works under the supervision of a nurse or provider to deliver patient care to emergency room patients. Responsible for the written records and reports which comprise the patient's medical record, maintaining chart forms for physician and nursing personnel, and filing reports from ancillary departments pertaining to each patient. Compliance with all applicable State and Federal laws, regulations, and policies governing the provision of health care. Responsibilities * EMT-Intermediate or Paramedic will be able to safely and precisely access the venous circulation and after didactic and practical modules taught by the laboratory, will draw appropriate laboratory studies per protocol. * Applies temporary splints in accordance to provided training. * Provides patients with Crutch use instructions. * Obtains EKGs, Vital Signs, Visual Acuity, applies simple dressings and assists with ambulation/ care of patient under the delegation of the Primary RN * Arranges ambulance for transfers, copies and assembles all documentation for admissions or transfers * Emergency Department Technicians who have a valid Vermont Emergency Medical Services license, may work up to the scope of practice equal to that EMS licensure while under the supervision of a provider or the delegation of a Regestered Nurse * Answers phone and refer calls to appropriate staff. * Ability to perform Quick-Registration in CPSI to register ED patients, if necessary * Assess patient changes in condition and reports to nurse * Complete required continuous training and education including department specific requirements. * Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served within the unit. * Familiar with simple medical laws and ethics, i.e. consents, confidentiality, etc. * Knowledge of all policies and procedures regarding admitting, transferring and discharge of patients. * Maintain work area and ED Waiting Room in an appropriate manner. * Maintains departmental policy and procedure manuals and unit files. * Maintains sufficient supplies needed for smooth operation of the unit. Avoids waste, utilizes time and supplies efficiently. * Maintains ancillary department reports, scans into medical record as appropriate. * Obtain Medical Records from Health Information Dept. and other facilities as needed. * Order and maintain supplies for ED * Orders proper tests from ancillary departments such as Lab, X-Ray, EKG, and Respiratory as noted on the patient's chart. * Orients new employees to the unit. * Performance reflects current knowledge of emergency procedures, medical terminology. * Sets up trays / assists with procedures within scope of practice. * Shows flexibility in hours to reflect census * Transports or escorts patients to examination area, treatment rooms, nursing units, the morgue, etc. * Advanced EMT/Paramedic, after successful completion of a telemetry course including didactic and practical modules, will safely transport stable patients requiring telemetry throughout the hospital and remain with patients during diagnostic testing, per protocol. Night Shift technicians have the additional responsibility of: REGISTRATION OR PRE-REGISTRATION: Accurately creates or identifies patients in the Master Patient Index. Updates or verifies all demographic, socio-economic and insurance information. Creates appropriate account for services being provided. VIEW JOBS Overview Performs all aspects of Respiratory Therapy. Performs Simple Spirometry, EKGs, Infant hearing screening and arterial puncture and capillary collection for blood gas determination. Supports respiratory related nursing in-service programs. May be trained for PFT, Pulmonary Stress Test, EEG and and or NCV. May participate in the Cardiac and or Pulmonary Rehabilitation Programs. Responsibilities * Cardiac and or Pulmonary Rehabilitation equipment management, including sharing in the daily and weekly cleaning, and identifying needs for biomed evaluation. Helps identify new equipment needs.* Cardiac Rehabilitation Phase II program: demonstrates the ability to set up telemetry for monitoring, take and document patient BP, PRE, and HR. Ability to interpret basic cardiac arrhythmias via the telemetry system. Assess patient response to exercise progression. Provide basic education regarding the CR program including THR, Blood pressure management, Cardiac signs and symptoms, medication usage and stress management.* Pulmonary Rehabilitation patient care evaluation: accurately and timely assesses new patients referred to the program. Follows established procedure for charge entry including timeliness.* Cardiac and or Pulmonary Rehabilitation maintenance program activities: Independently manages all maintenance program requirements, including attendance, payment management, safe supervision of exercising patients, vital signs capture and management if needed, physician communications, time management. Participates in cleaning and safety management of equipment.* Pulmonary Rehabilitation patient education: Provides accurate individual and group education to patients regarding appropriate pulmonary function, use of supplemental oxygen and or responses to the program. Educates patients in use of prescribed pulmonary medications and inhalers. Teaches appropriate pacing and breathing techniques. Adjusts technical factors in proportion to patient and body part being examined while minimizing radiation. Follows radiation safety practices. Maintains a skill level and working knowledge applicable to CT scanning technology with specific references to cross-sectional anatomy, medical and surgical diseases, and scientific principles as applied to CT. * MRI- Patient Safety- Follow safe MRI practices for patients. Review the screening forms with patients to ensure they are safe to have an MRI. Follow the two patient identifier to ensure the correct patient is being scanned. Keeps monitoring patients for comfort and know how to use patient immobility techniques. Qualifications * Completion of formal Radiological Technology training in an AMA approved school. Associates Degree. Advanced training in CAT Scan, Mammography, MRI or Ultrasound. * Bachelors of Science Degree in Health Science desired. * One to two years of practical experience in a hospital setting.
