JOB SUMMARY

The Cardiac Electrophysiologist is a highly trained physician specialized in the rhythm and electrical system along with the diagnosis and treatment of abnormal heart rhythms. This physician will work alongside internal medicine providers, cardiologists, cardiac surgeons and other specialists to care for patients.

Typical Duties

  • · Provides highly specialized outpatient/inpatient acute and chronic cardiac care.
  • · Performs and integrates multilevel specialized cardiac tests and education aimed to improve the cardiac and overall health of patients.
  • · Operates EP Lab in accordance with the requirements of the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, American Medical Association, regulatory agencies, the policies and procedures of the Hospital, Medical Staff bylaws, rules and regulations and current standards of medical practice.
  • · Works in multidisciplinary team of cardiologists and cardiovascular surgeons to formulate care plans in complex cases.
  • · Maintains and updates patient care records.
  • · Provides general cardiology and electrophysiology call support for the Division of Cardiology.
  • · Provides consultation services in electrophysiology and general cardiology to other departments of the hospital.
  • · Provides primary service in the coronary care unit to patients with rhythm and general cardiology disorders.
  • · Provides training for fellows, residents, and medical students.
  • · Leads or performs quality improvement projects in the electrophysiology laboratory and other clinical area.
  • · Performs assigned administrative duties in the electrophysiology laboratory and the Division of Cardiology as a whole.
  • · Leads the device clinic and performs interrogation of implanted cardiac devices (pacemaker, defibrillators, and implantable loop recorders).
  • · Performs interpretations of electrocardiogram, Holter monitor, and Long-Term Monitor tracings.
  • · Performs and interprets Tilt Table Tests.
  • · Participates in noninvasive cardiology interpretation service: echocardiography and stress testing.
  • · Participates in the interviewing and training of technical and medical personnel.
  • · Supports the Division of Cardiology by participating in research activities.
  • · Provides clinical services, as assigned, in any of the affiliated institutions or sites of the Cook County Health (CCH).
  • · Works closely with administration, nursing, and medical staff to lead high-quality, patient-centered care in a major clinical area throughout CCH.
  • · Advises patients and families to promote understanding of test results, treatment options, and procedures.
  • · Coordinates and ensures implementation of treatment plans, tracks patient progress, and provides follow up evaluations.
  • · Examines and diagnoses patients, and develops treatment plans.
  • · Orders and interprets clinical tests.
  • · Makes decisions regarding the need and the technique for complex cardiac procedures and surgeries.
  • · Prescribes medication and obtains specialty consultation when necessary.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree from an accredited medical college or university

  • Valid license as a Physician in the State of Illinois or have the ability to obtain license prior to starting employment.

  • Valid Illinois Controlled Substance License or ability to obtain License two (2) weeks prior to starting employment

  • Valid licensure with the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) or eligible to obtain Federal DEA licensure two (2) weeks prior to starting employment

Preferred Qualifications

  • · Underwent 2-year accredited electrophysiology training program (by start date) or has Two (2) year post-training experience in electrophysiology (by start date)
  • · Board Certified in echocardiography (National Board of Echocardiography)

Degrees awarded outside of the United States with the exception of those awarded in one of the United States' territories and Canada must be credentialed by an approved U.S. credential evaluation service belonging to the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) or the Association of International Credential Evaluators (AICE). Must successfully meet the credentialing standards established by the Cook County Health and Hospitals System to include a State of Illinois MD license and any other license, certification, or specialized training, etc. no later than two (2) weeks prior to the candidate's start date
