General Summary:

As part of the Cardiology

  • EP Team, the Cardiac Device Specialist provides services for a variety of diagnostic tests, which includes electrocardiograms, ambulatory cardiac monitoring devices and as needed telemetry monitoring in Cardiac Rehab. This person will support the Cardiac Device Specialists II with device interrogations, coordinate remote and in-clinic device schedules as well as ensure reports are in the electronic health record. Applicants must be able to demonstrate proficiency in identifying abnormal arrhythmias and operating ECG equipment plus related computer systems. This person will interact with patients, explain procedures about to be performed and provide the patient with instructions prior to testing.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Individual

  • Efficiently provide ECG analysis with accurate interpretation of cardiac rhythms and dysrhythmias, for a large population of patients.

  • Prepare patients for the procedure, confirming patient identification, reason for appointment and patient understanding of the procedure.

  • Perform diagnostic tests, such as electrocardiograms and ambulatory cardiac event monitor(s) and prepare applicable tracings / reports for the Cardiologists or Electrophysiologists to finalize and sign.

  • Coordinate care for remote rhythm monitoring with associated vendors such as Kardia mobile, Cardiac RMS and iRhythm.

  • Demonstrate ability to work independently and be attentive to details.

  • Identify and respond appropriately to potentially life-threatening rhythm changes.

  • Communicates directly with the Cardiology / EP RN Triage Team patients requiring triage assessment and follow-up.

  • Work closely with the Cardiology Medical Assistants, Medical Records CPACs team to ensure reports related to ECG monitoring and/or Device Clinic are in the Electronic Health Record.

  • Support WQ management to ensure reports in APeX and charge post complete.

  • Other duties as assigned

  • Takes initiative to identify and provide solutions to work-related problems, continuously seeking ways to improve quality of patient services.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of different device equipment, standard tests and procedures, and readings of rhythm strips.

  • Knowledge of arrhythmias and ability to triage events to the Cardiologist, Electrophysiologist, and/or Advanced Practice Provider.

  • Knowledge of common hazards and precautions to ensure patient safety.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and medications related to cardiovascular medicine.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate required.

License & Certifications:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
  • American Heart Association (AHA)

Experience:

  • Two-years experience in an ambulatory clinic setting.

  • Two-years experience in an acute care setting monitoring telemetry preferred.

  • Knowledge of software and electronic health record systems preferred.
