These positions are represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and are subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the AMEA.

DEPARTMENT: Finance

HOURS OF WORK: Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

LOCATION: 632 W. 6th Avenue

Example of Duties

Maintain through review and guidance to various department a complete cost accounting for Municipal capital projects and maintain complete and accurate fixed asset records for Municipal assets in accordance with governmental accounting standards and in regard to Municipal policy and procedures. Track and reconcile Municipal capital projects expenses/ expenditures as well as reconcile Municipal fixes asset schedules and records. Maintain complete accounting records and prepare financial reports, schedules and summaries for capital projects and fixed assets for the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (CAFR). Assist with the annual audit of the CAFR. Provide training to various departments for the SAP Projects and Asset Management (AM) modules. Over site of SAP Projects Systems and the AM modules as one of the MOA Subject Matter Experts (SME's). Support the Fixed Asset Accountant/Internal Service Fund Accountant and the infrastructure Accountant as required. Perform reconciliations of various funds and accounts as assigned. Perform maintenance of accounting records and prepare financial reports, schedules and summaries for multiple funds or component units. Prepare audit work papers. Provide support for SAP General Ledger module (GL) / Controlling module (CO) SME functions to include maintenance of master data, running month end and year end processes and GL workflow maintenance. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Economics, Management, Business Administration or a related discipline and three (3) years of professional accounting work experience.

OR

A certificate as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) and three (3) years of professional accounting work experience.

OR

Associate's degree in Accounting, Economics, Management, Business Administration or a related discipline and five (5) years of professional accounting work experience.

OR

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and seven (7) years of experience in accounting, payroll, or similar office responsibilities.

Preferences:

  • Experience creating complex financial statements with either FASB or GASB requirements

  • Experience creating fixed asset schedules

  • Experience performing project accounting to include closing out construction work in progress projects through to asset creation tasks.

  • Experience creating complex manual journal entries for the day to day accounting activities within a large ERP system.

  • Certified as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) or Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM)
