The Raleigh Convention & Performing Arts Complex invites qualified candidates to apply for the position of Capital Projects Manager.  The Capital Projects Manager provides oversight of the planning and execution of all capital improvement projects for the City's four entertainment venues. This role's primary purpose is to manage, prioritize, schedule, and implement capital projects for the Raleigh Convention Center, Martin Marietta Center for the Performing Arts, Red Hat Amphitheater, and Coastal Credit Union Music Park at Walnut Creek.  This position will be critical to the selection of contractors, contractor management, and proper scheduling.

The venues typically remain open and operational during these capital projects; therefore, it is imperative to have proper oversight of contractors to reduce impact of events occurring in tandem with the construction.  This position will help in all facets of major projects and be an integral piece in keeping projects within scope, on time, and on budget.

  • Provides coordination and oversight of project design and construction.

  • Monitors adherence of projects and processes with policies, procedures, applicable code, specifications, regulations, and standards.

  • Serves as technical resource and liaison for engineering department and contractors, consultants, developers, community groups, commission, agencies, City departments, private entities, and other stakeholders.

  • Responds to inquiries, requests, and complaints.

  • Performs research, identifies and resolves issues.

  • Provides consultation, project management and coordination of stakeholders and resources which may include consultant selection process, project scoping, contract negotiation, design oversight, schedule monitoring, budget development and funding administration, and project close-out.

  • Oversees and administers capital projects and operational contracts including bid and contract administration, construction oversight, coordination of permitting, document reviews, and facilitation of progress meetings.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in engineering or directly related field and five years of professional engineering and/or construction/project management experience in area of assignment.

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.

Licensing/Certifications

  • Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License, or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire, and a satisfactory driving record.

ADA and Other Requirements:

Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Medium Work:

Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed in both the field and in an indoor office environment with frequent exposure to hazardous physical conditions (such as mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibration, etc.); frequent exposure to atmospheric conditions (such as fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, etc.); moderate exposure to hazardous materials (such as chemicals, blood and other body fluids); frequent exposure to environmental conditions (such as disruptive people, imminent danger, or a threatening environment); frequent exposure to extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting and movement restrictions; and moderate exposure intense noise or travel.
