Position Description:

As a member of the Capital Markets team, the Capital Markets Analyst provides support on all Atlas capital markets initiatives. The analyst supports all levels of corporate finance with collecting and analyzing financing structures, market, industry, peer, and customer research; monitoring economic trends, preparing documents and presentations for issuances, events and/or meetings. The position also provides support to the Managers and Senior Manager in Capital Markets, and supports the creation of materials for external audiences in financial markets, and analysis of customer, credit, and equity research on a quarterly and ad hoc basis for senior management.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Analyzes and assesses various international markets, historical performances and economic forecasts, including global macro-economic commentary and interest rate environment, to determine feasibility and structure of international financing and investment options or new opportunities

  • Researches global financial markets, currencies and exchange rates, and monitors economic trends to help support business decisions or work towards strategic projects within Capital Markets & Treasury and/or across functional projects within the company.

  • Builds complex financial models to support financing opportunities

  • Manages due diligence for and supports the execution of new financing initiatives

  • Performs financial analysis and creates materials for capital markets and other financing initiatives including presentations and other materials for transactions, rating agency reviews, general lending partner use

  • Conducts research and collects information on customers, industry peers, and other counterparties using public information (including the periodic financial statements, rating changes, etc), to assist in developing financial market forecast models, assessing business opportunities as required and

  • Coordinates cross-functionally to structure and develop terms and conditions, and oversee the transaction process

  • Assists team members in preparing presentations to the board of directors, senior management, investors, rating agencies and lenders

  • Prepares credit and equity analyst summaries on a quarterly and ad hoc basis for senior management

  • Assists team members by providing data to support answers to questions about the corporate and deal models. Monitors performance indicators, key credit rating metrics, highlighting trends, and analyzes causes of unexpected variances

  • Supports the team in credit agreement amendment and wavier process

  • Performs other duties as required

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in business/economics from a recognized post-secondary education institution

  • Understanding of market analysis principles particularly as it relates to business/economics and international trade

  • Strong expertise in Excel for financial modeling and forecasting

  • Strong understanding of financial statements and accounting concepts

  • Strong expertise in PowerPoint

  • Enjoys working with numbers, with a high degree of accuracy

  • Strong attention to detail

Additional Desired Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years of experience working in finance or banking, with strong fundamental knowledge of Debt Capital Market products

  • Pursuing or completed professional financial accreditation (such as CPA or CFA)

  • Strong research and analytical skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Job Demands and/or Physical Requirements:

  • Periodic overtime to meet deadlines or accommodate time zone differences

Compensation and Benefits package:

Seaspan's total compensation is based on our pay-for-performance philosophy that rewards team members who deliver on and demonstrate our high-performance culture. The hiring range for this position is $92,500 - $115,600 CAD per annum. The exact base salary offered will be commensurate with the incumbent's experience, job-related skills and knowledge, and internal pay equity. In addition to base salary, we offer a competitive total rewards package which includes an annual performance-based bonus, a comprehensive benefits package (extended health, dental, life and disability insurance), retirement savings plan matching and other company-provided rewards.
