This is a remote work position, but candidate may choose to work at ICJIA's downtown Chicago office during the agency's regular business hours Monday thru Friday (8:30 A.M.

  • 5:00 P.M.) pending availability.

This is a full-time position. The selected candidate must work 37.5 hours per week. The selected candidate will start as soon as possible.

This position is TEMPORARY and does NOT include state benefits.

The Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority (ICJIA) Innovations Institute has launched a new capacity-building hub for community-based organizations that have recently been funded and those that have previously been denied funding. The Innovations Institute will provide coaching to assist organizations over the next few years.

The goal of the Innovations Institute is to support the growth of each of the partner organizations and ensure that their organizations are operating at a high capacity and are better able to sustain themselves. This position will assist in some development, design, and implementation of the capacity-building program. This position will be responsible for supporting organizations that will be placed in the cohorts with efforts to assist in the strengthening of the organizational infrastructure of cohort partners. This position will review the assessments completed by cohort partners to determine their specific needs and help to facilitate services to address their needs.

Essential Function 1

1.Establish and maintain strong relationships with local community-based organizations in the city, county, and statewide communities in Illinois who are charged with or are interested in implementing violence prevention and reduction programs.

2.Provide direct capacity-building support to community-based organizations that need to strengthen their organization's infrastructure, including; program development, board development, fiscal accountability, staff support and management, trauma-informed practices, and more.

3.Facilitate connections to city, county, state, and federal resources to financially support partner organizations, as needed.

4.Acknowledge and support procedures to foster communication between law enforcement and community-based street outreach and violence prevention organizations in immediate response to gun-related incidents of violence.

5.Engage with community organizations, block clubs and associations, afterschool programs, and others to explore potential funding opportunities.

6.Identify key violence reduction policy priorities from community residents and support other local entities in collective action initiatives focused on violence reduction.

7.Serve as a liaison between community-based organizations and local governments to ensure violence reduction goals remain a priority of local efforts within respective communities.

8.Assist partner organizations with the development and implementation of operationalization plans to address violence and to achieve their goals.

9.Facilitate an ongoing feedback loop to ensure that community voice is incorporated into all processes.

Minimum Qualifications 1

1.A four-year degree in human services, social work, community development, or a related field is required. Equivalent combinations of education and relevant experience may be considered.

2.A minimum of five years of professional experience working directly in community areas that have been impacted by violence, demonstrating a deep understanding of the challenges faced by these communities.

3.At least three years of experience providing capacity-building support to communities or community organizations, focusing on strengthening their infrastructure and implementing effective strategies for program development, board development, fiscal accountability, staff support and management, and trauma-informed practices.

1.Minimum of Five Years of Community Engagement Experience: Demonstrated experience of at least five years working directly in communities that have been impacted by violence as a community organizer or practitioner.

Experience should include actively engaging with community members and organizations to address quality-of-life issues such as housing, violence, poverty, mental health, education, and other relevant areas. This experience should demonstrate a deep understanding of the challenges and dynamics of these communities.

2.Three Years of Capacity-Building Support Experience: A minimum of three years of experience providing capacity-building support to local community-based organizations, specifically focused on building and/or increasing their infrastructures. This experience should involve supporting organizations in key areas such as board development, program development, staff supervision and support, fiscal accountability, and other relevant aspects of organizational growth.

3.Strong Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: A proven track record of at least two years in analyzing and reviewing information thoroughly to identify problems, develop strategies, and provide effective solutions. The candidate should possess the ability to assess organizational needs, identify gaps, and develop comprehensive and customized capacity-building plans to address specific challenges faced by partner organizations.

4.Logical and Objective Decision-Making Abilities: A minimum of two years of experience in making decisions in a logical and objective manner, considering relevant factors and information. The candidate should demonstrate the ability to evaluate different options, weigh their pros and cons, and make informed decisions that align with the best interests of the community-based organizations and their capacity-building goals.

5.Stakeholder Engagement Expertise: A minimum of two years of experience in effectively interacting with various stakeholders, including residents, government officials, law enforcement agencies, community organizations, block clubs, and other relevant entities. The candidate should possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrating the ability to build relationships, foster collaboration, and navigate complex stakeholder dynamics.

6.Demonstrated Commitment to Equity and Inclusion: A strong commitment to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in community-based work. The candidate should have experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures, applying culturally sensitive approaches in their engagement with communities impacted by violence.
