Job Introduction

The Canadian Tax Specialist is responsible for the reporting and compliance of one or more automotive systems groups. The Canadian Tax Specialist will work with the Manager of Canadian Tax to complete the primary responsibilities described and will also support senior members of the Tax Team in dealing with income tax audits, research and special projects.

Major Responsibilities

  • Prepare Federal and Provincial income and capital tax returns for the Group

  • Prepare documentation for Foreign Affiliate reporting

  • Ensure that tax instalments are made on a timely basis and correctly calculated as well as adjusted to consider revised forecasts and audit adjustments to minimize non-deductible interest

  • Tax accounting for quarterly income tax provisions according to both Canadian and US GAAP including tax estimates for both planning and reporting purposes

  • Provide analysis and support for tax planning and reporting as required

  • Assist in external tax audits

  • Ensure compliance with internal control policies on tax related matters

  • Work closely with group and divisional controllers to build creditable, collaborative and effective working relationships

  • Implement and maintain best practices to minimize tax risk

  • Carry out all duties in accordance with company's internal policies and procedures including the company's Corporate Constitution and Employee Charter

  • Carry out other administrative and management duties that may be assigned

Knowledge and Education

  • Recognized accounting designation or in process of certification

Work Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in an accounting firm or industry

  • Must have a strong desire to pursue a career in corporate tax

  • Maintain good standing in the relevant accounting body, continued self-development

Skills and Competencies

  • Ability to work effectively both in a team environment and individually

  • Project management skills

  • Effective and efficient communication skills

  • Strong Excel Skills
