This position's schedule includes rotating Saturdays (10 or fewer Saturdays per year). Saturday hours are 9:30 AM 6:00 PM. On weeks that include a Saturday shift, the work week is Tuesday

The Public Safety Officer position exists to create and maintain a safe and secure environment at Normandale Community College. The position insures the protection of persons and property; enforces laws, city ordinances, and college policies; responds to medical emergencies on campus. Supervises a shift that consists of Student Public Safety Dispatchers.
To be qualified for this position, you must meet all of the following Minimum Qualifications. Ensure that your resume contains descriptions of your work experiences sufficient for comparison against the requirements stated below.
At least two (2) years of experience as a Security Patrol Officer, Crime Prevention Officer, or Peace Officer
Associate's degree in Law Enforcement, Paralegal or related field may substitute for 1 year of experience; Bachelor's degree in above areas may substitute for 2 years of experience
Experience working in a Public Safety or Campus Security office on a college or university campus
Possess current Minnesota EMSRB certification for either First Responder or Emergency Medical Technical (EMT)
Proven ability to deal with people and provide quality customer service
Oral and written communication skills, as well as the ability to problem solve and find acceptable solutions when needed
Background and experience working with various diverse backgrounds, populations, ages, races and ethnicities with the ability to demonstrate sensitivity to these diverse needs and concerns
Ability to interpret, explain and enforce state laws, Bloomington city ordinances, and Minnesota State/College policies and procedures
Knowledge of standard police practices including investigation techniques and procedures, use of force guidelines, citizen's arrest power and loss prevention techniques
Experience working with intrusion and fire alarms, detection and surveillance systems, and computer software controlling these systems
Knowledge of Campus Security Act of 1992 (Clery Act) and related requirements
