A $0.65 shift differential will be paid for any shift that ends at or after 7:00pm

Supervise assigned shift of student patrol, parking and communications officers.
Assign and supervise student public safety officers to walking patrols, vehicle patrols, and security posts to maximize preventative patrol of buildings, parking lots and grounds. Monitoring the activities of the student Communications Officers.
Participate in the interviewing and selection of student patrol officers.
Review reports and ensure submitted reports are acceptable in format, content and grammar.
Ensure all applicable MSUM, State of Minnesota, Federal laws, rules and regulations, including policy and procedure are followed by student employees. Monitor radio transmissions for compliance with applicable FCC regulations.
Responsible for updating and maintaining Public Safety's Field Training Manual and Field Training Program to include department training.
Supervise security activities during assigned shift.
Ensure that building exterior and public interior areas are secured after normal works hours and parking is managed according to university policies and city ordinances.
Respond to emergency calls, stabilize incidents; if necessary, deliver emergency first-aid as determined by your individual level of certification.
Interview involved parties and witnesses, gather physical evidence according to appropriate legal procedures and department policies, interpret and explain relevant laws, rules and regulations.
If necessary, phone for emergency medical assistance and/or local police assistance, take into custody and detain persons who have committed a crime or persist in disturbing the peace according to department policies until situation is turned over to the police.
Supervise activities and enforcement of university traffic and parking rules/regulations.
Patrol University parking lots. Assist with coordinating parking enforcement with the Parking Division, schedule and train parking student staff, and meet with Parking Office personnel. Maintain the hand-held ticketing machine and train students in its use.
Collect money from parking meters and pay machines. Maintain and repair parking meters as needed.
Ensure that student officers patrol university lots and issue parking citations in accordance with University Parking and Traffic Rules and Regulations.
Provide vehicle jump-starts as required.
Respond to campus-wide emergency situations and trouble calls.
Ensure that staff implements emergency procedures in response to calls for medical, maintenance, and weather emergencies. Coordinate with emergency procedures with internal and external emergency services.
Limit and control access to hazardous situations and contact appropriate personnel to bring situation under control.
This position is required to respond to campus-wide situations and trouble calls in areas of responsibilities using initiative and delegated freedom of action as described below:
Normal shift hours:
As directed by the Director of Public Safety, Vice President of Finance and Administration.
Notification of situations by dispatcher or other legitimate source.
After normal shift hours:
The incumbent shall be on-call status if directed by the Director of Public Safety or designee per collective bargaining rules.
Ensure that necessary emergency paperwork and notifications have been completed.
At least two (2) years of experience as a Security Patrol Officer, Crime Prevention Officer, or Peace Officer.
Associate's degree in Law Enforcement, Paralegal or related field may substitute for 1 year of experience; Bachelor's degree in above areas may substitute for 2 years of experience.
Valid driver's license.
City of Moorhead ordinances, State of Minnesota and federal criminal and civil law as it applies to MSUM Public Safety.
Minnesota State University Moorhead regulations and policies.
Standard police practices and including investigation techniques and procedures.
Rules of evidence.
Citizens' arrest power.
(Working knowledge) Apple Macintosh and IBM computer systems/software.
Mechanical aptitude sufficient to recognize and to temporarily control mechanical emergencies.
Must pass background check free from convictions of felony and/or misdemeanor violations.
Ability to motivate and accomplish work through student employees.
Good communication and human relations skills are essential for interviewing witnesses, victims, suspects; defusing conflicts and violent situations.
Good written communication is essential for writing reports, recommending modifications to emergency procedures and policies.

In accordance with the Minnesota State Colleges & Universities (MnSCU) Vehicle Fleet Safety Program, employees driving on college/university business who use a rental or state vehicle shall be required to conform to MnSCU's vehicle use criteria and consent to a Motor Vehicle Records check.
