HealthFitness has an exciting opportunity for a Campus Recreation Director with our new client Babson College located approximately 15 miles west of Boston in Wellesley, MA. Babson College is preparing to open a new modern, multi-use recreation and athletic center in the Fall of 2019. The new center will nearly double the size of Babson's current athletics and recreation facilities, improve the quality and quantity of available fitness equipment and strengthen the overall experience for Babson students, faculty & staff and local community. The new 75,000sqft addition will feature:
A large, two-story fitness and recreation area with state-of-the-art cardio equipment and weight room.
Multipurpose studio spaces for yoga, dance, and aerobics classes.
Dedicated varsity locker rooms, expanded sports medicine area, and an advanced strength, cardio, and conditioning area for varsity sports teams.
Three courts for recreational sports.
Improved locker room facilities for all students.
Large, flexible space to host major college events in any season.
In this position, you will lead Babson's first-ever campus recreation department in the development of programs, services, facility management and the establishment of sound business and operational functions within a highly entrepreneurial campus recreation environment. You will directly manage day-to-day operations of the new 75,000 sqft addition as well as manage programs and scheduling within the Webster Center, Staake Gymnasium, PepsiCo Pavilion, Morse Swimming Center, Chandor Dance Studio; and collaborate with BRAC Administration in the development of marketing, revenue generation and facility schedule optimization within the Babson Skating Center, Outdoor Tennis Center, Outdoor fields and within summer day camp programs. All of the aforementioned facilities are collectively known as the Babson Recreation and Athletic Complex (BRAC).
More specifically, you will direct the administration and management of all programming and operational aspects of aquatics, fitness, customer service, intramural sports, club sports, and special events. Furthermore, you will consult, coordinate, and collaborate with key leaders within BRAC, Student Affairs and other Departments across campus to define, deliver and expand recreational services.
The ideal candidate will understand the business of recreation, be responsible for strategic planning, revenue enhancement and be a true champion for student programming, passionate about campus recreation and the development of student leaders, and committed to promoting a healthy and active lifestyle within a diverse and inclusive campus environment.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Supervises the development, implementation and evaluation of all program: policies, procedures, and operations.
Continually forecasts, measures and adjusts operational strategy in consideration of trends, facility & program usage, membership feedback, department and campus goals, and financial performance.
Astutely monitors local area market trends and proposes rates & fees for programs and services that are fair and competitive.
Reviews the operating results of the program, compares them to established objectives, and ensures appropriate measures are taken to enhance results.
Directs the ongoing review and development of risk management plans, emergency response plans, operational manual and cash management policies.
Develops patron feedback loops for continuous improvement and immediate response.
Serve on department and campus committees, teams and groups as a representative of Recreation.
Ensure that all Recreation related marketing, promotions and communications are in-line with best practice, brand standards and in accordance with the Babson marketing team expectations.
Establish, optimize and continually review facility scheduling practices in accordance to BRAC priority use policies.
Generate, review, evaluate department & program area annual reports.
Manages all contracts and contractual obligations associated with the delivery of Recreation management and services.
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with HealthFitness policies, procedures and applicable laws including recruiting, orienting, training, evaluating, developing and planning the succession of staff.
Provides training and development opportunities to promote and encourage career growth.
Conducts formal performance appraisals on a quarterly basis and initiates formal performance improvement plans when warranted.
Evaluate Administrative Staff and maintain ongoing employee records pertaining to required certifications, promotions, achievements, and work performance.
Recruit, hire, supervise and evaluate three full time professional direct reports.
Recruit, hire, supervise and evaluate membership services staff and facility & event staff.
Works in collaboration with BRAC Administration in the development and administration of the Recreation budget.
Establishes capital renewal budget for replacement of equipment and facility systems.
Reviews all rates & fees and recommends market adjustments when necessary.
Reviews, advises, and approves all purchasing and departmental expenses.
Ensures monthly reconciliation and reporting of all revenue and expense.
Other duties as needed/assigned.
Education, Experience and Certifications:
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Sports Management, Recreation Student Affairs or a related field.
8 years' experience in collegiate recreational sports with progressive facility and program management as well as staff supervision responsibilities.
Experience in managing a comprehensive program that operates on a cost recovery basis.
Strong interpersonal, customer service and communication skills.
Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work demands.
Strategic thinker with experience capturing and analyzing data to make informed decisions and recommendations.
Proficient with computer and industry relevant technology.
Ability to work effectively with all levels of individuals both within HealthFitness and the client organization.
Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications from American Heart Association or American Red Cross required or obtained within 60 days of hire.
Master's degree strongly preferred.
Experience with data collection, point of sale, presentation and assessment systems (ex: Microsoft Office, SAP, Tableau, Innosoft Fusion, EMS).
Experience cultivating external partnerships in support of revenue generation.
Familiarity of the regional market in the setting of rates, fees and identification of services and trends.
Demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusion and equity.
Verifiable experience establishing new revenue streams that positively contribute to departments financial performance.
Experience with aquatic facilities and programs.
