The Campus Police Investigator I ensures the security and safety of the university community and facilities by physically patrolling designated areas and by enforcing institutional security regulations and procedures. Exercises general law enforcement authority to protect persons and property from injury, harm or damage.
Minimum Qualifications
Ability to learn and work with computer database systems.
Available to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events.
Not later than first day of employment must be WV resident and hold a WV Driver's License.
Must either have current police officer certification in WV or be eligible as to all Academy Entry Standards at the time of the next available WV Academy session [http://www.dcjs.wv.gov/law-enforcement-training/Documents/149CSR2.pdf ]. This includes the National Fire Protection Association 1582 Medical Selection Guidelines.

Description of Job Duties
Identifies, apprehends, arrests and assists in the prosecution of persons who commit crimes.
Performs miscellaneous duties which may include assisting in training of personnel in public security procedures; participation in routine crime prevention and "awareness" programs (i.e., drugs, date rage, etc.); transporting bank deposits; assisting students, faculty, and staff with car trouble; assisting authorities to locate personnel or students on campus; or light maintenance to secure property.
Reports promptly to supervisor and fires, imminent fire hazards, theft, vandalism, attempted illegal entry, gross misconduct, utility system failures, etc., and acts to minimize damage to school property.
Responds to request for assistance from local law enforcement authorities in community adjacent to university property.
Investigates assigned campus crimes and initiates appropriate actions to clear the investigation within institutional policy and applicable state and federal laws.

Provides written documentation relating to security activity, fills out and reviews reports relating to accidents and crimes occurring on campus property, and may perform data entry, updates and maintenance of law enforcement software programs.
Monitors campus traffic and parking and issues citations for violations in accordance with established procedures.
Provides general law enforcement authority to protect persons and property from injury, harm or damage.
