Assist the Assistant Director of Bridge Programs and other OSS staff members with the Bridge Bruin Scholars program. Work with Bridge Bruin Scholars to make sure they have a meaningful and transformative experience in Salt Lake Community College

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

Participate as a team member of the Orientations and Student Success office (OSS) by assisting with duties and tasks, including:

  • Attend all required trainings

  • Inform new students in large or small groups about the various resources offered at Salt Lake Community College

  • Assist in event planning and execution

  • Assist Bridge students with the program's curriculum and activities

  • Problem solve common challenges new students face in their transition to SLCC

  • Coach first-year students on time management, financial literacy, campus employment opportunities, and/or success skills

  • Maintain a civil and respectful environment for students, faculty, and staff.

  • Review the reading material and other course assignments

  • Other duties as assigned by Bridge Assistant Director

Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum GPA 2.0

  • Currently enrolled at SLCC as an undergraduate student and in good academic standing, maintaining 9.0 credit hours for Fall and Spring, and 6.0 credit hours for Summer.

  • Required participation in CIP Professional Development activities.

  • Effective communication in explaining difficult concepts and information.

  • Prior enrollment in English 1010 with an earned grade of B or higher

  • Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Communicate effectively - both orally and in writing

  • Demonstrate thorough customer service skills

  • Present in front of large audiences as well as provide one-on-one consultations

  • Travel to various campuses in the Salt Lake valley to present in workshops

  • Work well with diverse populations

  • Work collaboratively with other office staff, a variety of campus departments and community personnel

  • Organize, process, and apply large amounts of information with accuracy

  • Learn the requirements of SLCC departments, majors, schools, programs and degree options, and College resources and procedures (application, registration, catalog, schedule)

  • Work well under pressure and function independently with integrity under minimal supervision

  • Work a flexible schedule which may include evenings and weekends

  • Utilize basic computer operating systems (Microsoft Office Word, Publisher, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and the student information system (Banner)

  • Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College.

  • Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic background of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities and special needs
