Interns will:

  • Plan Meet and Greets, participate in Multicultural High School Days, Club Rush, Welcome Back Activities, complete CIP end of semester evaluations, and other duties as assigned.

  • Complete and submit monthly academic progress reports to your Multicultural Student Council (MSC) Advisor by the 10th of each month during the Fall and Spring semesters.

  • Serve as a voting member on the Multicultural Student Council and attend all meetings.

  • Coordinate, promote, and execute events and programs hosted by MSC Interns and/or ODMA.

  • Perform clerical functions such as data entry, case management, spreadsheets, participate in student calling campaigns and other functions as assigned.

  • Engage students who visit ODMA to answer questions and concerns

  • Support and assist Black/African/African American students how to navigate SLCC.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of ODMA, and the MSC Advisor

  • Address the upcoming activities and barriers these populations maybe facing

  • Serve on various committees designed to tackle issues and implement initiatives focused on equity and diversity within Student Affairs and share the information with the other MSC board members; such committees may include but are not limited to, the following:

  • LGBTQ+ Committee

  • Student Involvement Center Advisory Committee

  • Undocumented Student Resource Committee

  • Take full responsibility for other duties as assigned by the Director of the Office of Diversity and Multicultural Affairs, and/or the Multicultural Student Council Advisor

  • Plan and coordinate MSC transitional trainings and succession retreats.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

With the support of the Multicultural Student Council Advisor, the intern will develop the following skills:

Communication Skills

  • Participate with coordinator in college and community events about gaining access to higher education in Utah.

  • Assist in the development of programs, and workshops as necessary for Salt Lake Community College students who identify as multicultural.

  • Assess, address, educate, and advocate for Black/African/African American students and their specific needs to persist in higher education.

  • Inform any prospective, incoming, and current students about campus resources and services in an effective manner.

  • Collaborate and work closely with other college students, organizations, advisors, and staff members interested in strengthening leadership and diversity efforts for students to improve diverse student development, participation, and retention of and for Black/African/African Americanstudents

Problem Solving

  • Educate, and encourage students to persist in attaining their higher education goals.

  • Collaborate with coordinators to develop and administer holistic interventions (e.g. addressing food insecurity, financial aid, academic concerns)

  • Navigate SLCCSafe and identify college resources

Team Work

  • Support MSC Advisor (Multicultural Student Council Advisor) in establishing and maintaining relationships with community partners and leaders to provide ongoing support to students

  • Partner with other departments on campus to gather and relay information relevant to students and their success at the college.

Leadership

  • Mentor and support prospective and current Black/African/African Americanstudents

  • Create a welcoming environment for all SLCC students

Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum 2.0 GPA

  • Registered for 9.0 credit for Fall and Spring semesters

  • Registered for 6.0 credit hours for summer semester

  • Participate in Campus Internship Program professional development activities

  • Maintain 15-20 hours per week work schedule
