General Description:

The Financial Aid Manager for the Alexandria campus will provide leadership, direction, supervision and managerial accountability within the campus financial aid office for the purpose of maximizing assistance for all Northern Virginia Community College students who have applied or may apply for financial aid.

Duties and Tasks:

  • To act as the campus financial aid extension of and liaison to the College Financial Aid Office (CFAO).

  • To initiate and adhere to direction, policies and procedures provided by the CFAO,

  • To create an environment of cooperation and collaboration that reinforces the vital relationship between the campus financial aid office and the campus.

  • To serve as the primary contact for the Dean of Students in researching.

  • Resolving and providing follow-up on financial aid issues and concerns.

  • To participate in Student Services meetings and activities on campus as a member of Student Services, and to provide leadership in interactions with other campus offices.

  • To ensure effectiveness and efficiency of the campus office by establishing and maintaining staff schedules and roles, by developing and maintaining innovative processes that meet the needs of students in a timely manner, and by monitoring compliance and staff adherence to all pertinent federal, state, VCCS, and institutional policies and procedures.

  • To ensure availability and accuracy of information and assistance to those accessing the services of the campus financial aid office for the purpose of guiding students through the aid process-over the phone, by email, virtually or by in-person consultations.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications

Required KSAs:

  • Strong management, training and leadership skills and the ability to synergize staff for maximum output and results.

  • Solid customer service skills and abilities.

  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret federal, state and institutional policies and procedures, especially as they relate to the administration of financial aid.

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work well with students, staff and other offices for successful resolution to difficult problems.

  • Ability to work independently and to create efficient office management processes and systems.

  • Ability to compose correspondence with proficiency of syntax and grammar.

  • Ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines.

  • Knowledge of financial aid, industry, and college websites and publications including, but not limited to, NASFAA Today's News, IFAP, NOVA website, SCHEV, VCCS.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience processing financial aid within a higher education student information system.

  • Experience using computer applications related to financial aid.

  • Supervisory experience.

  • Customer service experience.
