CAMP PINE TREE - COUNSELOR POSITIONS

Camp Pine Tree is a traditional summer day camp at the Greenbelt Youth Center, where campers ages 6-11, will participate in a variety of daily activities including sports, crafts, group games, field trips, free swim, and swimming lessons.

STARTING PAY: $15.00/hour

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be at least 18 years old or a high school graduate.

• Experience working with children preferred.

• Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.

• Must be available for entire camp season

(Monday-Friday, June 17 - August 16, 2024).

SHARED EXPECTATIONS/RESPONSIBILITES

• Maintain a safety first mentality throughout the camp day.

• Enthusiastically participate in all camp activities.

• Check the camp schedule daily for modifications, and adapt to them.

• Ensure proper camper behavior through the summer camp 3 R's (Respectful, Responsible, Ready) policy and address any behavior concerns.

• Be a role model to campers and staff through your attitude and behavior.

• Represent the camp when speaking to parents or the general public.

• Ensure proper usage of supplies, resources, and equipment.

• Clean the area last utilized with campers, before moving on.

• Participate in field trips and special all-camp activities as needed/directed.

• Complete incident and accident reports, as well as document first aid administered, as necessary.

Counselor (Group Leader)

Regular Hours: 8:30am-3:30pm

DESCRIPTION:

Under the supervision of camp managers and full-time Recreation personnel, Group Leaders are responsible for the overall supervision of 12 to 15 campers, throughout their daily activities. Group Leaders must ensure campers arrive on time for their scheduled activities and must assist Specialists with the implementation of these activities.

UNIQUE DUTIES:

• Direct, supervise, and organize campers in assigned camper group throughout entire camp day.

• Prepare and implement at least one creative, forty-five minute activity each day.

• Assist Specialists with implementing lesson plan in a controlled and orderly environment.

• Record daily attendance and report it to camp managers.

Counselor (Specialist)

Regular Hours: 8:30am-3:30pm

DESCRIPTION:

Under the supervision of camp managers and full-time Recreation personnel, Specialists lead activities for rotating groups of campers throughout the camp day. Specialists must provide age appropriate, creative, progressive instruction to groups of 12 - 30 campers at a time. Specialists are responsible for developing lesson plans for the summer that will ensure quality fun for a variety of campers, while ensuring the safety of all participants. Knowledge and experience in specialized area (sports, art, music, dance, etc.) is preferred.

UNIQUE DUTIES:

• Create and implement new and innovative daily lesson plans adapted to the age and ability of the campers.

• Work with Camp Counselors to maintain a controlled and orderly environment.

• Supervise and provide tasks for camp intern assigned to specialist area.

After Care Counselor

Regular Hours: 2:30pm-6:00pm

DESCRIPTION:

Under the supervision of camp managers and full-time Recreation personnel, the After Care Counselor is responsible for the overall supervision of 12 to 15 campers enrolled in after care. After Care Counselors lead campers in a variety of activities during after care hours. After Care Counselors are essential to the image of Camp Pine Tree as many parents only have the opportunity to observe camp when picking up their camper during after care hours.

UNIQUE DUTIES:

• Assist at sign out tables to ensure proper camp procedures are followed when campers are signed out for the day.

• Assists After Care Manager in planning and implementing activities.

• Direct, supervise, and organize campers in assigned group.

• Record daily attendance and report it to the After Care Manager.

• Assist with regular camp hours (8:30am-3:30pm), as needed.

Camp Session Dates:

• Session One: June 17 - June 28 (no camp June 19)
• Session Two: July 1 - July 12 (no camp July 4)
• Session Three: July 15 - July 26
• Session Four: July 29 - August 9
• Session Five: August 12 - August 16
