Camp Hilbert has been the home of happy campers since 1947! Nestled in the heart of Goochland County, Camp Hilbert offers a classic day-camp experience, that allows campers to explore the outdoors, develop skills, and forge lifelong friendships. Campers in grades K-8 participate in a variety of activities from swimming and athletics to archery and canoeing. Group counselor daily responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Direct responsibility for all campers in your group to include: day-to-day involvement with campers as individuals; imparting Camp rules, policies and traditions; helping every camper make friends, become acclimated to life at Camp, grow towards his or her potential, and becoming part of the community

  • Ensuring the health, safety and happiness of campers at all times!

  • Helping campers keep track of belongings

  • Maintaining a clean Camp and taking care of Camp equipment as well as engaging campers in this process

  • Participating enthusiastically in all Camp programs

  • Assisting Specialists with program and activity facilitation; planning and leading downtime activities to include free periods and plans for inclement weather,

  • Other duties as assigned by Unit Head, Assistant Director and Director

Working at Camp Hilbert is an experience that will stay with you for the rest of your life.

Camp Hilbert runs Monday-Friday from June 17th-August 9th (no camp July 4th). from approximately 8:45 am to 5:00 pm with the opportunity to pick up additional hours before and after the Camp day. All our Camp staff participate in approximately 25 hours of training prior to the start of our Camp. All Staff members are required to have a current CPR/First Aid Certification. There will be several opportunities for staff members to become CPR/First Aid certified, free of charge, at the JCC before the start of the camp season.

Must love kids!

VIEW JOBS 4/19/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-07-18T00:00 The Science Museum of Virginia seeks a dynamic and energetic camp leader to work with our six weeks of summer camp programming. This position will help our summer camp coordinator provide leadership to our summer camp counselors and oversee and deliver energetic live science programming to our campers. They will assist the Summer Camp Coordinator in developing, designing and training other camp staff on each week's lessons and activities. This position serves as daily Manager on Duty for camp, overseeing daily coordination and supervision of camp activities and camp staff. They will also work with the Coordinator to maintain a schedule of daily activities for camp and aftercare, and ensure camp counselors have all the lessons, supplies, and other information they need to have a successful camp week. They will need to know and understand emergency procedures associated with the camp program; plan and implement ice-breakers and games; communicate with parents about participants' experiences; and help design and implement fun and engaging activities for our summer camp after care program. May be required to perform other duties as assigned. This is a physically demanding position requiring standing for long periods of time and lifting up to 50 pounds. This is a temporary 10 week position, Monday ? Friday, 8:30am ? 5:00pm, from June 10-August 16. Candidates must have complete availability on weekdays. This is a temporary seasonal position, no state benefits are provided. Minimum Qualifications Desirable candidates should be energetic, outgoing, and have a genuine appreciation of working with children in an educational environment; have the ability to be a self-starter and work successfully with little supervision; the ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with staff; and the ability to effectively present content in both one-on-one and group situations in an engaging way. Science ?expertise?? is not required, but willingness to learn is. The successful candidate will also demonstrate effective problem solving skills, patience and flexibility. Preferred Qualifications Experience in theater, teaching or public speaking; experience working with children of various ages in a camp setting; BS/BA degree (or in progress), from an accredited college or university with coursework in science or education and/or experience in K-12 education. Previous experience delivering educational programs in informal and/or formal settings preferred. Museum experience a plus.
