SCHEDULE: Rotational or Variable Schedule

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

Performs a variety of camp related and administrative duties in support of Track Out and Summer Camp operations at the Town of Apex Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department.

This position reports to the Recreation Program Specialist.

This position supervises a team of day camp counselors.

A SAMPLE OF THE ESSENTIALS:

  • Handles day to day operations of Camp including use of ActiveNet software modules.

  • Maintains a safe and welcoming camp environment, including but not limited to: setting up and leading activities, maintaining key tag process with parents, having difficult conversations with campers and/or parents, etc.

  • Drives a 14-passenger mini-bus to and from off site camp field trips.

  • Supervises a team of Camp Counselors on a rotating weekly basis.

  • Assists Recreation Program Specialist with hiring, scheduling and training of seasonal/temporary employees.

  • Plans and submits activity schedules to the Recreation Program Specialist.

  • Tracks and maintains camp supply inventory and makes supply reorder requests as needed.

  • Administers First Aid.

  • Carries out all job duties in a safe manner and in accordance with all Town Policies and Procedures.

  • Performs other job-related task as assigned.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

Completion of high school diploma or GED and moderate experience working in a camp setting, or a combination of equivalent education and experience.

WITH...

  • Knowledge of principles, practices, and methods of recreational and educational programs for assigned program area.

  • Knowledge of equipment and supplies required for camp operation.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

  • Ability to plan and supervise the work of part-time and temporary staff.

  • Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, special populations, citizens, employees and other public and private groups and agencies.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.

  • Ability to prepare and maintain records.

  • Working knowledge of the application of information technology to the work performed.
