The California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology (Calit2) is a world-class, multidisciplinary research partnership of UC San Diego, UC Irvine and recently joined by UC Riverside. The Calit2 component at UCR serves as a multicampus research instrumentation facility under the direction of Research and Economic Development.

The facility provides (need help articulating the services and instrumentation available) to campus, system, and external users.

The CalIT2 Instrumentation Facility Manager would have primary responsibility for the management of the day-to-day facility operations and routine maintenance of equipment including supervision of staff and users.

The manager would establish and oversee facility access and training policies as well as ensure that standard operating procedures for facility instrumentation exist and are adhered to by users.

The manager would also support the development and implementation of recharge fees for facility use and support a wide array of users including UC campus-based researchers as well as users from outside organizations. The manager would coordinate, consult, educate, and participate in research applying the methods of microscopy and microanalysis as well as develop and implement standard research methods for equipment and scientific processes used in the facility. The manager would also support the teaching and supervision for facility users and other interested parties; serve as the safety officer for the facility; and participate in campus and other professional organizational meetings/conferences.

The full salary range for the CalIT2 Instrumentation Facility Operational Director is $87,300.00 - $163,300.00 annually. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs. Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position.

Federal, state, or local government directives may impose additional requirements.

Manages daily operations of laboratory to ensure compliance, consistency, and effective collaborations. Independently resolves administrative, operational, compliance issues within the latitude of guidelines and policies.Manages research staff and laboratory research experiments to achieve research objective, quality and timeline requirements.Develops short and long range plans for management and utilization of the laboratory.

Implements strategic plans; develops and monitors policies and procedures, measures success, evaluates performance. Suggests ways to improve operations.Manages laboratory fiscal, material and human resources within department budget.In collaboration with PI, oversees research project review, including laboratory and budget requirements in preparation for grant submissions.Manages lab, including but not limited to breeding colony, environmental and facilities, adhering to research protocol and compliance according to UC, state / federal compliance.Manages customer service and quality services to researchers to support PI's research needs.Provides consultation to PI and research associates on project designs, budget, study conduct, and protocols. Assigns staff and technical support to research projects, provides for staff training in research procedures and safety protocols.. Advises staff on the more difficult or challenging areas of research or instructional and experimental design.Performs state-of-the-art, complex research projects or instructional experimental design in collaboration with academic supervisors.Adapts and modifies procedures and equipment in the teaching laboratory as new techniques are developed.Contributes significant original / innovative ideas of major methodological significance to the development of research or experiments and instruction.Writes articles for publication in scientific journals or for presentations at conferences or symposiums.
