Summary
The Calibration Technician is responsible for monitoring and maintaining specialized medical, computerized, and technical electronic equipment. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.
Functions
Plans sequence of testing and calibration program for instruments and equipment according to blueprints, schematics, technical manuals, and other specifications. Disassembles and reassembles instruments and equipment and inspects instruments and equipment for defects.
Installs, maintains, and performs preventative and corrective maintenance of test apparatus and peripheral equipment.
Maintains network of communications systems, including mobile and base radios and audio and visual equipment. Writes specifications for new equipment, develops proposals for new equipment, and submits to supervisor.
Selects sensing, telemetering, and recording instrumentation and circuitry. Creates printed circuit artwork, tests circuit designs, and transforms design into workable printed circuit boards. Conducts tests on performance and reliability of mechanical, structural, or electromechanical equipment.
Modifies performance and operation of component parts and circuitry to specifications, using test equipment and precision instruments. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of vertical amplifier schematics. Knowledge of electronic circuitry components.
Knowledge of operations, maintenance, and repair of electrical and mechanical equipment.
Ability to inspect, maintain, repair, and calibrate medical or specialized technical equipment.
Ability to operate test equipment.
Ability to diagnose equipment failures from instruments and testing. Ability to modify and fabricate instrumentation equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus one year of specialized training in electronics or a related field; plus three years of experience in electronics or a related field. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management.
