The Johnson City, TN site is looking for someone to join our team as a Calibration Technician. This is a 1st shift position working 7:00 am to 3:00 pm.

SUMMARY

This position tests, calibrates, maintains and repairs electrical, mechanical, electromechanical, analytical and electronic measuring, recording and indicating instruments and equipment for conformance to established standards. Performs a variety of maintenance and troubleshooting functions that will include, but not limited to, fabrication, modification, installation, testing, calibration, maintenance and repair of parts, sub-assemblies or equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Performs independent maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, calibration, repair, modification, and training on a variety of analytical instruments, process control systems, building control and monitoring systems, and miscellaneous lab equipment in support of Manufacturing, R&D, Quality Control, Engineering and Validation.

  • Sets up laboratory equipment to test, evaluate and calibrate other instruments and test equipment.

  • Measures parts for specification conformity.

  • Analyzes complex problems and devises formulas to resolve measurement and calibration issues.

  • Maintains traceability records for laboratory standards and production test instruments.

  • Keeps a gauge usage history for non-conformance and recall notifications.

  • Dis-assembles instruments and equipment to inspect components for defects.

  • Aligns, repairs, replaces and balances component parts and circuitry.

  • Re-assembles and calibrates instruments and equipment.

  • In conjunction with manufacturing staff, identifies tooling, machines or fixtures, which optimize manufacturing processes.

  • Supports company goals, objectives, policies, procedures, QSR and FDA regulations.

  • Complies with all EH&S (Environmental Health and Safety) requirements.

  • Performs as a member of a team to design, fabricate, assemble, operate and test systems and equipment to insure quality and reliability.

  • Assists production by re-designing, modifying, and repairing manufacturing equipment.

  • Completes shop records and use reporting system following established procedures as required for effective performance of the job or operation of the department.

  • Analyzes the failure of equipment for root cause, develops corrective actions, and/or assists in repair activities.

  • Actively looks at operational processes and suggests, justifies, and implements improvements.

  • Performs basic machining: Sets up and operates shop equipment such as mills, surface grinder, lathe, and band saw. Use precision measuring equipment for machining.

  • Reports complaints in accordance to complaint handling process.

  • Performs other duties as assigned or needed.

QUALIFICATIONS/COMPETENCIES

  • Ability to integrate inspection, automation and equipment up-grades onto new or existing equipment.

  • Acceptable score on PLC and electrical control circuit aptitude test.

  • Must be a team player with good work ethics, quality driven, and results oriented.

COMMUNICATIONS SKILLS

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, work instructions and procedures.

  • Ability to read and prepare documents, use computer and calibrate/maintain equipment.

  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and possess the ability to participate in team environment.

  • Ability to effectively and clearly communicate one-on-one and small group situations with customers, clients, and/or other employees of the organization.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Associates degree in Mechanical Technology or similar degree; or, a combination of education and experience equivilant to such degree.

  • Knowledge of instrument qualification and calibration requirements in a GMP/GLP environment is desired.

  • Machine building and mechanical experience.

  • Experience with technical documentation.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.

  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  • Higher level of mechanical aptitude.

General Description: As a Commercial Service Technician, you will be accountable for properly and safely performing the tire and related services needed for all commercial tire users both in the truck care center and on the road.
