RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs shipping/receiving duties for all equipment sent into the lab for calibration and returns calibrated equipment to customers. Be in constant contact with customers and vendors.

Apply office skills to perform numerous functions including but not limited to; contacting customers to schedule calibrations, processing received equipment into lab, preparing cost estimates for customers, assigning workflow priorities based upon customer requirements. Will be required to learn company CMMS systems to enter records as needed.

Will be in constant communication with customers. Involves receiving and some shipping. Works closely with customer and under the general supervision of the Metrology Operations Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs shipping/receiving duties for all items being sent into the lab for calibration and returns calibrated equipment to customers.

Closes work orders for completed calibrations performed by technicians. Forwards closed orders to accounting department for invoicing and assists with collection efforts as needed.

Prepares cost estimates for in lab and on-site calibrations for customers.

Inputs received equipment into the database in preparation for calibration.

Ensures that customers equipment is calibrated and returned in accordance with terms of the customer.

Responds to customer inquiries using all methods of communication. May include but not limited to cost estimates and updates of current status for work orders in the lab.

Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. Associates Degree in scientific field of study preferred or equivalent related work experience. Minimum of two years of related experience and/or training.

Ability to comprehend and interpret instructions, short correspondence, and memos and ask clarifying questions to ensure understanding. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients, co-workers, and/or supervisor. Ability to effectively present information to an internal department and/or large groups of employees.

FINANCIAL KNOWLEDGE

Requires basic knowledge of financial terms and principles. Ability to calculate simple figures such as percentages.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to understand and carry out general instructions in standard situations. Ability to solve problems in standard situations. Requires basic analytical skills.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES

Intermediate skills with Desktop publishing, Microsoft Office Suite and Online Help.

Computer experience preferred.

We are looking for an entry level DNA Sequencing Lab Technician (FT, 40 hours per week) in our Gaithersburg, MD laboratory. Schedule: Thursday - Monday 7:00am-3:30pm This position is for an entry level DNA technician position in our laboratory. The job involves following basic protocols for PCR, gel electrophoresis, and Sanger sequencing. The Technician will be trained to use the various robots and instruments used to automate our PCR and sequencing workflows. At times technicians will be working as part of a team but would also be responsible for a good amount of individual work. Our work is clinical in nature and is repetitive, so this position absolutely requires someone who is very focused, meticulous, and willing to see that there are small things to learn every day. Responsibilities: * Implement the standard operating procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting of results to team leads, supervisors and test managers, and record-keeping * Adhere to quality control policies; document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, reagent preparation and testing, and instrument maintenance performed * Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance, take authorized corrective action, and notify key individuals * Detect when test performance is not within acceptable levels, and documentsall corrective action * Document that proficiency testing is performed in the same manner as patient testing * Meet and exceed target workload with high accuracy * Other related duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications: * Bachelors of Science Degree in Biology, Biochemistry, or related-field. * College course credits must include (16) credits of Biology, (16) credits of chemistry, and (3) credits of Math. * Previous experience a plus. * Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and deadlines. * Ability to work well within a team environment.
