Cal Poly Humboldt - STEM Experiential Learning Support Spec

Are you passionate about hands-on learning and helping others gain experiential learning opportunities, such as service or internships? If so, Cal Poly Humboldt (CPH) is looking for someone who understands the opportunities, challenges, and tremendous impact of authentic professional experiences on STEM students to join our team as our STEM Experiential Learning Support Specialist.

The VISTA will coordinate with CaliforniansForAll College Corps staff to develop STEM support groups with STEM fellows as they engage in meaningful community-based service opportunities that build leadership skills and civic responsibility. In collaboration with the College of Natural Resources and Sciences, the VISTA will work on expanding internships and other professional experiences for STEM students. In addition to program development and evaluation, the VISTA will also focus on building relationships with student-based organizations and creating individualized support plans that will help with mentoring STEM students.

This role is part of the CSU STEM VISTA program. As a member of this cohort, you will take part in a learning community of VISTAs across the California State University system. Our one-year program is designed to promote your growth professionally and personally as you create and enhance programs for STEM students.

All projects within CSU STEM VISTA are focused on eliminating race, class, and gender disparities in STEM undergraduate degree and STEM Teacher credential programs. You will be trained to utilize sustainable, asset-based approaches that engage students of color, students from low-income communities, and students who are the first in their families to attend college. Member Duties : As the STEM Experiential Learning Support Specialist, the VISTA will coordinate with College Corps staff to develop STEM support groups with our STEM fellows and collaborate with the College of Natural Resources and Sciences to expand internships and other professional opportunities for STEM students.

The VISTA will also evaluate programming that has been developed, build relationships with student-based organizations, and create individualized support plans that will help with mentoring STEM students and assist with developing student support groups that enhance retention and persistence toward graduation.
