POSITION SUMMARYCashier will, under supervision of the Director of Food Services, perform clerical duties of a responsible nature including securing funds for daily meal transactions, depositing funds, balancing accounts and adhering to accounting practices for monies handled.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSKnowledge of:District policies and procedures as they apply; Methods and techniques of handling money; Practices of office management involving data processing and other computer equipment; Operation of office machines used in a modern office environment; Formats and procedures for entering and retrieving various types of data; Principles and procedures of record keeping and reporting; Basic mathematical principles; Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary; Oral and written communication skills; Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy; Child growth and development principles; Applicable sections of the State Education Code and other applicable laws.Ability to:Establish, maintain and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.Operate modern office equipment and perform clerical work of average difficulty with minimum supervision.Work quickly and efficiently in performing a variety of cashiering and food service duties.Perform clerical duties such as filing, duplication, typing and maintaining records.Read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures.Compile, maintain, and submit accurate and complete records and reports.Verify accuracy and completeness of documents and process data.Perform appropriately in situations requiring tact and diplomacy.Make mathematical computations quickly and accurately.Type at least 50 words net per minute from clear copy.Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.Review, code, check, and enter data on a computer.Speak and understand Spanish (desirable).Handle money and make change.Meet schedules and deadlines.Communicate well with others.Plan and organize work.Secure fidelity bonding.Work confidentially.Work flexible hours.Education: Graduation from high school or possession of GED required; supplemented by course work in secretarial science, business and/or office practices or related field is desired.Experience:

One (1) year of responsible experience in the handling of money, including some experience in bookkeeping and/or financial record keeping; One (1) year of child/youth related experience or equivalent is desired; Possession of valid First Aid Certificate and possession of a valid California Drivers License.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THIS POSITION1.Perform a wide variety of specialized and responsible clerical work independently; interpret and apply rules and regulations as appropriate. 2.Collects monies for the purpose of completing meal transactions.3.Prepares documentation for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.4.Reconciles transactions for the purpose of balancing accounts and adhering to accounting practices.5.Responds to inquiries of students, staff, and the public for the purpose of providing information and/or direction regarding the type and/or cost of meals.6.Transports money for the purpose of securing funds for daily transactions and/or depositing funds.7.Assists other personnel as may be required to the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.8.Attends appropriate staff meetings and inservice training.9.Incorporated within one or more of the previously mentioned essential functions of this job description are the following essential physical requirements.1.Seldom = Less than 25%3.Often = 51 - 75%2.
