Davis County Recorders Office is looking to hire a Cadastral Mapper I, II. This position performs technical drafting work developing and updating ownership maps, property descriptions, base maps, zoning maps, land use maps, and drawings.

Minimum Requirements

Cadastral Mapper l

  • High school graduation plus six (6) months of directly related experience OR
  • Completion of a drafting or CAD technology training program at an accredited educational institution (coursework must have included CAD training); OR
  • An acceptable combination of related training/education and experience.

Cadastral Mapper ll

  • High school graduation plus two (2) years of full-time experience in mapping, drafting, property surveying, real estate title or a directly related field, six (6) months of which must have included CAD experience or training, or an acceptable combination of education and experience. A maximum of one (1) year of related post high school education may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis.

  • Preference given for experience in a county recorder's office, or related real estate title or surveying experience.

This position is part of a career ladder, the successful candidate will be hired into the position for which they qualify.

Day to Day Duties

  • Assists or creates new ownership maps and section maps using a combination of methods that include computer graphics, manual drawings and cut/paste.

  • Assists or prepares ownership maps and property descriptions from deed descriptions; prepares property descriptions.

  • Checks subdivision linens submitted by cities prior to recording, and places newly recorded subdivisions into the records.

  • Assists the public, other employees and departments with basic problems relating to legal descriptions, acreage, parcel boundaries, chain of title, etc.

  • Splits and combines parcels as required by submitted deeds calculating closure, acreage, and dimensions of property lines.

  • Interprets deeds and writes remaining legal descriptions; drafts new and updates old subdivision plats;

  • Redrafts old townsite and quarter section plats using traditional and computer-assisted drafting (CAD) methods; performs abstract and title searches.
