We are looking for a CAD Technician to develop drafting, e.g., electrical drawings, mechanical drawings, or civil drawings with the ability to operate a computeraided drafting (CAD) system

Under close supervision, will provide:

  • Diagrams, schematics, layouts, multi-view, and various drawings to scale in accordance with clients' requests.
  • Mathematical, geometrical, and minor engineering computations.
  • To scale engineering drawings using computer aided drafting system
  • Detailed design drawings and related specifications of civil/ electrical equipment per engineering sketches, specifications, and related data and drawings to determine design factors such as size, shape, and arrangement of parts.
  • This would include structure, schematic, foundation, grounding, steel, layout, equipment, apparatus, wiring, panel, AC&DC, one lines, and other type drawings necessary to produce substation, relay, and line design job packages
  • File drawings, maintain catalogs of engineering data, and perform other routine drawing room functions as required
  • Additional duties as needed and/or assigned.


  • Graduate with a two-year degree in automated computer design/drafting or related field
  • Experience in utility Geographical Information Systems
  • Proven AutoCAD and/or Microstation skills
  • Strong PC/IT skills (i.e., Word, Excel, etc)
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills

The employee will be required to regularly sit, talk or stand and be able to lift up to 25 pounds. Frequent use of computers and related equipment is required. Vision requirements include: close vision. Frequent travel to field locations via automobile will be necessary and exposure to outdoor conditions. Occasional evening and offsite meetings or involvement in storm duty, company, community or conferences is required.

Job Purpose The CAD Technician is responsible for providing computer aided design (CAD), drafting, and detailing for the development of complex record drawings for underground power distribution networks and schematic drawings, and any other CAD services required by the Engineering group. Essential Functions * Prepare record drawings that include cable routes, splice box and transformer locations * Prepare other drawings and CAD products as needed by engineering. * Collaborate on design matters with engineering staff. * Perform detailed QA/QC of drawings. * Coordinate CAD services with administrative staff to ensure all work is completed on a timely basis. * Evaluate work priorities and align resources to meet required work cycle times. * Adhere to applicable safety and OSHA procedures. * Perform other duties as required and/or assigned. Minimum Qualifications * High School Diploma, or equivalent. * 2 years of experience with AutoCAD in a power distribution or engineering environment. * Knowledge of proper engineering layout techniques and design methods. * Ability to develop and produce record drawings and be accurate and detail oriented. * Proficiency in computer software programs, including AutoCAD and Microsoft Office applications. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills. * Excellent customer service skills. * Ability to work in a fast paced, high volume work environment. * Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more and 20 inches or less, with the ability to judge distance and space relationships. Preferred Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in a related field. * Prior experience with 2D and 3D. Physical Demands and Work Environment This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment, such as computers, phones, copiers, and scanners. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This position is primarily sedentary, with some filing or lifting required. Must be able to bend and lift and carry up to 20 pounds.
