CAD Designer - Research & Development

Ensuring Chart's Success…

This position is for a SolidWorks designer to work in the Chart New Prague R&D department. The designer will work with R&D engineers and technicians on the development of new concepts and the installation of test devices into the Hydrogen Test Facility. The ability to handle ambiguity is paramount and creativity is encouraged to take ideas and create models that can be built and tested. Tolerance of many iterations is as important as handling ambiguity; most of the ideas take many iterations of design, build, test, repeat until performance is met. The ability to make decisions with and without collaboration is important, being both a team player and an independent worker.

What Your Day-to-Day Activities Will Be…

• Work with engineers on designing concepts and ideas.

• Collaborate on designs with engineers at various Chart locations throughout the world.

• Work with technicians on modeling the products that have been built.

• Create prints from models or hand sketches.

• Create BOMs and release work orders to drive materials to the R&D lab.

• Order non-standard parts from vendors.

Your Professional Experience Should Be…

• Excellent communication and documentation habits.

• MS office and general computer knowledge.

• Knowledge of hydraulic and electrical power systems is a plus.

• Knowledge of sensors, gauges, and data acquisition systems is a plus.

• Experience with hands-on technical work, weld procedures, and metal forming methods is desired

Your Education Should Be…

• 3-5 years of SolidWorks design of mechanical products.

• Background in ASME pressure vessel and piping design is preferred.

• JD Edwards experience is beneficial.

• A background in cryogenics or gas handling would be excellent but not required.

• BSME or equivalent preferred, but not required.

Your Physical Work Environment Will Require…

Working Conditions

• Mostly office environment.

• Hydrogen Test Facility outdoor test layout and design.

• Engineering lab, indoor & outdoor test layout and design.

Work Hazards:

• Lab test environment will involve possible exposure to materials with rough edges, temperature extremes, moving mechanical parts, occasional flying debris, chemical cleaning solvents and their odors.

• Compressed gases present in the lab and test areas.

• Cryogenic nitrogen and hydrogen present in lab and test areas.

Physical Requirements

• Able to lift to 40 lb.

• Frequent standing, sitting, and walking.

• Frequent computer work.

• Frequent work at an outdoor liquid hydrogen test site
