Job Title: Cabinet Maker (12 month)

Location: School Maintenance Dept.

Reports to: Director of Maintenance

Nature of Job: Deliver cabinets that are both practical and aesthetically pleasing. Using the specs provided by our

foreman, you will use your building and mathematical skills to create cabinets that meet very specific

guidelines. You'll work alongside the other members of our building team to create an important product

that is in high demand.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

  • Prior experience.

  • Considerable knowledge of the standard practices, methods, materials, and tools of carpentry and other trades.

  • Must have a valid NC Driver's License and maintain a good driving record.

  • Must be physically able to perform standard tasks of the trade.

  • Such alternatives to the about qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Selecting the appropriate materials, fittings, and tools for each task.

  • Cutting resources down to size, as needed.

  • Planning an effective approach to work to ensure that each project is completed on time.

  • Creating standard and custom components of cabinets.

  • Gathering the elements of each cabinet and assembling the final product.

  • Applying sealant, varnish, and paint to cabinets, if required.

  • Inspecting each completed item to ensure that it has been constructed accurately, and that the necessary finishes have been applied.

  • Repairing elements of cabinets that have been sent in for servicing.

  • Wearing the requisite uniform and taking necessary precautions to remain safe.

  • Advising on appropriate care for finished products upon request.

  • Construct and assemble cabinet components, making sure that all pieces fit the dimensions specified by the foreman and client

  • Verify and double check all calculations to ensure alignment of doors, hinges and side panels, always using blueprints or design plans for reference

  • Clean and repair all equipment necessary for your work, including handsaws, table saws, skill saws, and a variety of drills and sanding tools

  • Be exact in measurements and markings so that materials will be used efficiently and the projects will meet budgetary restrictions

  • Install match material and grains to create a uniform appearance for all the matching units

  • Reinforce joints and attachments to maximize sturdiness and durability without compromising aesthetic appeal or functionality

  • Maintain a safe working environment by cleaning and disposing of old materials, such as nails and screws.

Requirements:

Unless reasonable accommodations can be made, while performing this job the staff member shall:

  • Frequently lift up to fifty (50) pounds alone and one hundred (100) pounds with assistance.

  • Occasionally work from ladders or scaffolding at heights over ten (10) feet.

  • Sit, stand and walk for required periods of time.

  • Reach with hands and arms, use hands and fingers to handle objects to operate tools, computers, and controls.
