This is a new role to Private Client and will have the responsibility of handling the largest/Complex water losses and being a resource to the Property team as an expert in reviewing Water mitigation invoices for accuracy and assisting associates with consistent handling of complex water losses in alignment with Best Claim Practices (BCP's) and Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Guidelines (IICRC). Xactimate 1 & 2 certification required, IICRC certification preferred but commensurate water loss mitigation experience is acceptable. Assist in identifying Subrogation and Salvage Recovery opportunities. This role will have travel requirements 50-75%

This position can be located in any Nationwide Office or staffed as a work from home opportunity (AWE).

Job Description Summary

Manages large personal lines property losses (structure and contents) from $250K to $5M while maintaining high member engagement. These losses will be high exposure, complex, coverage laden and will involve high profile and net worth customers.

Reports to: AVP, Claims Private Client

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participates in complex litigated and non-litigated claims and provides technical assistance and consultation to state/regional leadership and claim associates

  • Conducts on-site field investigations and/or field re-inspections of large exposure personal lines claims and coordinates rebuilding of damages with contractors, various trades and architects

  • Maintains current knowledge of: assigned insurance lines; court decisions which may impact the claims function; current guidelines in the claims function; and policy changes and modifications. This may require attendance at various seminars or training sessions.

  • Serves as a mentor for field claims associates to develop their technical and building knowledge and may provide advice, counsel, or formal training to these associates

  • Participates in CAT events as requested by the Technical and or Field Office

  • Visits Top Third Tier Agents to market claims capabilities

  • Delivers a positive On-Your-Side customer service experience to all internal, external, current and prospective Nationwide customers.

  • Adheres to high standards of professional conduct while providing the delivery of superior claims service support

  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Education: Undergraduate degree or post-graduate studies preferred.

License/Certification/Designation: State licensing where required. Successful completion of required/applicable claims certification training/classes.

Experience: Ten or more years of claims experience handling large losses. Field management experience preferred.

Requires superior knowledge of personal lines insurance operations, field and staff functions, industry trends, and project management.

Proven superior knowledge of best claims practices used to resolve the most serious and large and complex personal property claims. Proven knowledge of insurance contracts, familiarity with court proceedings affecting legal liability for all lines of insurance, knowledge of claims systems, and evaluation of contents are required. Strong knowledge of home construction, building materials and repair processes. Comprehension of fine arts and jewelry loss management.

Skills/Competencies: Must have excellent customer service skills.

Proven ability to meet customer needs and provide exemplary service by informing customers of the claims process by setting service expectations from the beginning of the loss through the conclusion while ensuring a positive customer experience. Demonstrated decision-making and analytical skills. Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate with field leadership, staff management, legal, and other departments. Ability to operate various claims systems, related software, and Xactimate are required.

Overtime Eligibility: Not Eligible (Exempt).

Working Conditions: Normal office or field claims environment.

May require ability to sit and use telephone and personal computer for extended periods of time. Representatives must be able to operate an automobile and have a valid driver's license with a safe driving record. Must be able to make physical inspections of accident scenes and property loss sites.

Must be able to climb ladders, balance at various heights, stoop, bend and/or crawl to inspect vehicles and structures. Must be able to work out-of-doors in all types of weather. Must be able and willing to work irregular hours and to travel with possible overnight requirements.

May be on-call. Must be available to work catastrophes (CAT).

It is the responsibility of this position to provide superior property claims service to all regions by handling Property and Inland Marine claims, generally with dollar exposures of $5,000 to $25,000. This person will investigate the claim, estimate the property damages, select and deploy experts, obtain appropriate claim documentation, and effect accurate settlement within the prescribed authority and standards of performance. All job duties and responsibilities must be carried out in compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements. JOB RESPONSIBILITES: * Handles property/inland marine claims for assigned region with availability to assist as needed in all other regions. * Evaluates and settles property-related damages (primarily) between $5,000 and $25,000 (aggregate). * Handles typical Business Income losses. * This position will join the LLU as part of the corporate catastrophe team. As catastrophe needs arise throughout our claims organization, the PCS will serve as an initial responder for catastrophe claim events within the various regions. * Responsible for all coverage determinations, negotiations, reserving and settlement within established authority. * Provides coverage and/or estimating assistance to regional CMS' as may be required by management. * Responds to all legal, regulatory or appeals situations or requests. * Must be able to drive an automobile to travel within territory. Car travel represents approximately 75% of employee's time.
