This position will be based at our Alain LeRoy Locke College Prep Academy in Watts. Graduates will be career- and college-ready, critically conscious and literate citizens, culturally competent leaders and critically engaged change agents. Teachers will work with students on college-readiness test preparation and college applications as well as the scholarship and financial aid application process, as well as teach and reinforce the skills needed to make a successful transition from high school to post-secondary education and/or the workforce. The positions will also work with department members to maintain the schools' scope and sequence as scholars move from grades 9-12.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Create a culture of learning in your classroom
Engage in data-driven planning and assessment of student learning
Establish a culture of respect and rapport with the students which supports the students' emotional safety
Facilitate rigorous learning by delivering cognitively engaging lessons that incorporate our instructional methodologies
Develop students in:
Academic Knowledge and Skill Building - clarify high school graduation requirements, build study skills and hold bi-weekly academic consultancy and goal setting meetings
Social Emotional Learning (SEL) - create and deliver lessons to support the mental health and wellness of scholars
Life Skills and Cultural Competence - support scholars in the art of financial literacy, resume writing, job interviews, etc.
College and Career Knowledge - support scholars in researching colleges and careers, writing personal statements, completing college applications, preparing for college-readiness exams, exploring careers to name, etc.
Positive School Culture and Restorative Practices - create a weekly focus on building a sense of connection, belonging and community with peers, adults and the schools through Community Circles and other school initiatives
Provided culturally responsive teaching strategies to support the needs of African American, English Language Learners, Homeless and Foster Youth, and individual Education and 504 Plan students
Engage in critical reflection, constantly revising practice to increase effectiveness
Utilize and analyze data to drive instruction and intervention via Power School and other data platforms
Participate in a professional community across your school site and the Green Dot network
Develop partnerships within the community by communicating with families and bringing to bear resources that support student success in college, leadership, and life
QUALIFICATIONS
As an ideal candidate, you
have a bachelor's degree (required)
have a growth mindset and love of learning
have met the California Basic Skills requirement (https://www.ctc.ca.gov/credentials/leaflets/basic-skills-requirement-(cl-667)
have knowledge of and experience with AVID
have the capacity to plan and deliver instruction to meet the needs of students, demonstrating cultural competence in working with students from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
be able to integrate technology into instruction
display a relentless commitment to and high standards for high quality execution
are passionate and demonstrate a high level of personal responsibility towards ambitious goals
have excellent collaborative and organizational skills

CREDENTIAL/LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
For California-Based Educators:
Possess (or will possess by July 2024) a valid California Preliminary or Clear Single Subject credential in any content area (credentials in English and Social Science are preferred due to a strong focus on essay writing) OR
Eligible for a Short-Term Staff Permit (STSP) or Provisional Internship Permit (PIP)
For Out-of-State or Non-Credentialed Applicants:

COMPENSATION - SALARY
For credentialed teachers, our 2024-25 salary scale ranges from $71,085 to $127,985, depending on your level of education and years of experience
For aspiring teachers who have yet to obtain their credentials or those currently enrolled in a credentialing program, the 2024-25 salary range is between $62,316 and $63,866
