Job Title: BYU Online High School Assistant Principal

Job Overview:

The BYU Online High School Assistant Principal is responsible for supporting the BYU Online High School Principal in promoting the success of every student, fostering a positive school culture, and ensuring compliance with all policies and regulations. This role requires strong leadership, a commitment to student achievement, and the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, students, and stakeholders. The BYU Online High School Assistant Principal will play a critical role in advancing the mission and vision of BYU Online High School, ensuring educational excellence, and upholding the values of the BYU community.

What you'll do in this position:

Student Success and Achievement

  • Promote the success of every student by ensuring administrative and management directives are carried out, maintaining operational efficiency, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.

  • Ensure academic success for all high school students, with a particular emphasis on advanced science, math, English, and social studies courses, including Advanced Placement courses.

  • Support the establishment of high and measurable expectations for all students, educators, and stakeholders to foster college- and career-readiness.

  • Implement interventions for students with disabilities and ensure accommodations are in place to provide equal opportunities for high-quality education.

Faculty and Staff Development

  • Oversee the selection, training, supervision, professional development, and evaluation of all adjunct teachers and staff.

  • Maintain a strong background in secondary curriculum and instruction, all forms of assessment (including progress monitoring), and quality professional development.

  • Use student achievement data to evaluate teachers and improve instruction for all students.

  • Support the training of all students, educators, and stakeholders to foster a culture of continuous improvement and learning.

Collaboration and Community Engagement

  • Collaborate with the Principal and OHS faculty and staff to support the implementation of all OHS administrative policies, initiatives, tasks, and procedures.

  • Coordinate with CE administration and service departments to ensure that the BYU Online High School program and curriculum are delivered with educational excellence consistent with the BYU Mission.

  • Participate in meetings and activities, professionally managing and addressing all concerns, complaints, and questions in a timely, fair, and effective manner.

Compliance and Quality Assurance

  • Understand, support, and promote the BYU High School Online Learning Education Service Agency (ESA) vision, mission, values, aims, policies, and procedures.

  • Maintain a commitment to following directions from the ESA Governing Board and ESA School Leadership to ensure fidelity and implementation of the ESA Improvement Plan.

  • Work closely with ESA administrative teams through participation in various ESA meetings and collaborations to ensure compliance with all relevant policies and standards.

  • Manage and address personnel problems in a timely, fair, and effective manner to ensure a productive and positive work environment.

School Culture and Environment

  • Create a supportive, collaborative, and positive environment for all students, educators, and stakeholders.

  • Ensure resources are in place for a safe, efficient, and effective learning environment that promotes student engagement and success.

What qualifies you for this role:

Required

  • A firm commitment to the mission of BYU
  • Minimum education/experience required is a Master's Degree from an accredited university, AND a valid Professional Educator License for the State of Utah with a
  • License Area of Concentration- of

  • Administration- OR willingness to obtain a Utah license within 6 months.

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with various stakeholders, including faculty, staff, students, parents, and the community.

  • Impeccable integrity and a commitment to fostering a collaborative team environment.

  • Unrelenting focus on customer service, with a professional and courteous demeanor suitable for executive-level work.

  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to speak persuasively and implement desired actions.

  • Strong analytical skills to define issues, analyze situations, and draw meaningful conclusions.

  • Exceptional flexibility and adaptability to work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Willingness and ability to supervise and attend night and weekend activities as needed.

  • Strong sense of humor and resilience in dynamic and challenging situations.

  • Strong background in secondary curriculum development, instruction, and all forms of assessment, including progress monitoring.

  • Proven ability to use student achievement data to evaluate teacher performance and enhance instructional practices for all students.

  • Superior knowledge of Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) guidelines, Individual Education Plans (IEPs), and 504 Plans.

  • Familiarity with National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) policies and procedures.

  • Outstanding organizational skills with the initiative to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.

  • Ability to direct tasks, assignments, and personnel to achieve organizational goals.

  • Experience in managing and addressing personnel issues in a timely, fair, and effective manner.

  • Strong computing skills, including proficiency in statistical analysis, forecasting, and data analysis tools.

  • Familiarity with educational technology and digital platforms used in online learning environments.

Preferred

  • PhD from an accredited university, AND a valid Professional Educator License for the State of Utah with a
  • License Area of Concentration-of-Administration- AND 5 years previous administrative experience in secondary administration.
  • English as a Second Language (ESL) Certification

  • Working knowledge of Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).

  • Experience with ACT/SAT testing.

  • Experience with curriculum development.

  • Experience in implementing special education programs and accommodations for students with disabilities.

  • Proficiency in utilizing educational technology to enhance learning and manage school operations.

  • Experience in an online/blended learning environment, particularly at the secondary level.
