The Assistant Medical Director BWPO, MD Wellness is a physician leader and manager on the BWPO Medical Management Team. Working as an active member of the Medical Management Leadership Team, comprised of BWPO Chief Medical Officer, Associate and Assistant Medical Directors, and Administrative Directors, the Assistant Medical Director actively participates in the advancement and development of MD Wellness/Professional Development strategy and programs. S/he provides relevant clinical context, active strategic thinking, and day-to-day management support to other Medical Management Team staff members working on not only MD Wellness/Professional Development, but also clinical care redesign and population health management. As a member of the leadership team, s/he enable the team to drive quality, efficiency, and strategy. Core leadership competencies include teamwork, executing to drive results, communicating effectively, coaching and mentoring, thinking strategically, networking and influencing, and leadership.
Under the direction of the BWPO Chief Medical Officer, the Assistant Medical Director BWPO, MD Wellness leads the development of the strategy and the management of all aspects of programs/projects within his/her portfolio. These responsibilities include the design of the strategy in alignment with broader PO, hospital and/or Partners strategy; oversight of the project execution to ensure goals, timelines, and budgets are met; management of the individual team members and overall team; and effective communication of the status of this work to her/his direct supervisor, the BWPO Chief Medical Officer, full Medical Management team and other key stakeholders.
S/he will have the ability and expectation to directly and indirectly manage within a matrixed organization staff, either with team members who have a direct HR reporting relationship and/or may work directly on his/her initiatives, but have a separate direct HR reporting relationship. Direct management responsibilities include: completing the annual performance review, reviewing the annual Competency Model development plan, and managing requests for time off and other administrative issues related to managing an employee. Indirect management responsibilities include contributing to the annual performance review, offering real-time coaching and feedback, and coordination with a team members' direct leader.
Faculty Wellness/Professional Fulfillment: Design and implement clinical and operational strategies to advance faculty wellness and overall professional fulfillment. Work across Brigham Health to design programs to advance faculty and trainee wellness across departments, and with individual department wellness champions to support advancement of local department efforts
Collaborate with PHS Wellness Leaders to share learning and leverage system resources to support wellness. Collaborate nationally to advance learning and strategy for MD wellness, including representing BH on Physician Wellness Academic Consortium.
Faculty Professional Development: Oversee/support programs designed to advance faculty professional development and advancement. Includes oversight of FACTS database, recognition awards and grant programs.
Other Programs/Projects as defined by Medical Management leadership: Work collaboratively with other medical directors to advance clinical care redesign/population health as part of medical management team.
Skill and Abilities Required:
Requires skills and experience facilitating clinical teams, managing administrative staff, and understanding group dynamics.
Experience engaging and communicating with physicians in process improvement and strategic projects.
Experience and demonstrated interest in advancing wellness and professional development efforts.
Excellent verbal and written skills, to communicate effectively with a wide range of departments and individuals at all levels throughout the organization.
Experience using a variety of improvement and redesign tools and techniques such as process mapping, root cause analysis, design and prototyping, rapid cycle testing and change management.
Extensive experience working with administrative healthcare and clinical data preferred.
Skill in use of Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook.
MD with board certification with at least 3 years of practice experience.
Extensive management experience in an academic medical center or additional management degree (e.g., MBA, MPH) preferred.
Track record in completing process redesign, quality improvement, and project management work.
Effective facilitation skills within large dynamic groups required; with specific preference for experience facilitating physicians and clinical teams in performance improvement and/or behavior change
Demonstrated expertise in managing and communicating among working relationships in matrix structure
Fast paced matrixed environment, requiring teamwork, collaboration and flexibility.
Potential oversight in a direct reporting relationship of Sr. Project Manager level employee(s), as well as indirect management responsibilities within matrixed structure
