GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

Under general direction is responsible for installing, maintaining and repairing steam piping, traps, valves, pumps, reducing valves and all related devices on steam, hot water, heat and condensate systems throughout the hospital. Usually works on the most complex problems and systems.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.Installs, maintains and repairs steam piping, traps, valves, pumps, reducing valves and all related devices on steam, hot water, heat and condensate systems throughout the hospital.

2.Responds to all emergency situations as appropriate.

3.Reads and interprets blueprints (piping drawings) for various information such as piping size and locations.

4.Prepares material listing as required for work order requests and other routinely assigned tasks.

5.Responsibilities may involve participating in planning activity at departmental level or assisting in the development of solutions to specific problems.

6.Maintains a safe and clean work environment in area (s) of Engineering Department responsibility (areas as assigned).

7.Responds to phone calls from areas of the hospital as assigned by supervisor.

8.Communicates with other employees and management on necessary information regarding piping systems.

9.Maintains appropriate records of testing and/or duties.

  2. Ensures compliance with appropriate plumbing codes.

  3. May be required to carry on-call pager.

  4. May be required to work weekends or rotating shifts.

1.Requires the ability to read, write and perform arithmetic calculations at a level generally acquired through completion of high school.

2.Completion of technical training usually lasting 300 hours beyond high school required.

3.Requires successful completion of an apprenticeship program usually lasting 3 years.

SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

1.Requires interpersonal skills sufficient to interact cordially and to cooperate with staff throughout the hospital. Must be able to clearly explain steamfitting issues and problems to other personnel.

2.Requires analytical skills to evaluate steam systems and to develop appropriate solutions to steamfitting problems.

3.Required knowledge of steamfitting supplies and equipment and the ability to read blueprints and diagrams.

4.Requires physical ability to lift over 30 lbs. (up to 15-20% of the time).

5.Requires the ability to work independently. Refers to supervisory staff for clarification or exception to established policies and procedures.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

1.Works in a hazardous environment at least 50% of the time. Hazards include potential exposure to steam and asbestos.

2.May be required to work in a confined space or in a containment booth.

3.May be required to wear a respirator.

Ariadne Labs currently has research and implementation projects in the areas of childbirth, surgery, palliative care, and primary health care. The Senior Grants Manager is a member of Ariadne Labs' finance team, and is responsible for providing proactive, precise, and efficient customer service to a portfolio of 2-3 programs, often on tight timelines. Responsibilities Reporting to Ariadne Labs' Director of Finance, the Sr. Grants Manager is responsible for providing pre- and post- award management for a portfolio of sponsored projects at Ariadne Labs. This person will serve as a liaison with internal departments at Harvard School of Public Health, Brigham & Women's Hospital and Partners Research Management and sponsor agencies. The Sr. Grants Manager will oversee expenditure and reporting on sponsored and non-sponsored accounts, in addition to proposal preparation, annual budgeting and other tasks. Funding sources include federal and non-federal grants, ISAs and contracts, philanthropy, internal billing agreements and other unrestricted support. Duties include but are not limited to: * Grant proposal preparation and budget development, working closely with program and project teams * Assisting central sponsored programs staff at Partners HealthCare and Harvard School of Public Health with preparation and review of financial reports required by sponsors * Liaising with Sponsored Programs and other offices and staff at Partners HealthCare, Harvard School of Public Health and Brigham and Women's Hospital on account set-up, financial reports and other sponsored requirements. * Creating and disseminating monthly financial reports with key internal and Institutional stakeholders * Initiating and tracking billing agreements with partner institutions * Effort allocations and reporting * Sub recipient monitoring on sub-awards/contracts * Award modifications * Financial projections * Maintaining accounting records and reconciliations * Updating annual budgets and multi-year projections in the Ariadne budgeting software * Identifying and resolving issues that arise throughout the life cycle of the award * Ensuring compliance with Federal and University/Hospital cost principles * Related job duties and special projects as required. Skills/Competencies * Experience with a wide variety of sponsored research awards. * Expertise with IP, data sharing, licensing agreements, and contracts (institutional agreements, royalty agreements etc). * Proven record of delivering proactive service to program teams. * Must be able to manage multiple and shifting priorities and interact with a diverse constituency. * Demonstrated experience with electronic grant submission systems, and intermediate-to-advanced knowledge of Excel. Willingness to learn other systems and processes is essential. * Strong analytical, interpersonal, and organizational capabilities. * Strong financial skills (budgeting, accounting, A/P, A/R, reporting). * Must be self-directed, possess ability to use high degree of judgment, work independently with minimum supervision in a fast paced deadline driven environment. Attention to detail and ability to multitask essential. Must be a team player with a strong service oriented and collaborative attitude. * Must be comfortable working within a matrix environment.
